Grass Clippings

Does anyone have any experience with Grass Clippings? It looks like they officially opened a couple weeks ago.

My family is headed out to Phoenix to visit my in laws over the holidays. Usually I take my sticks and we play a traditional round of golf but I'm not sure if I’m going through all that effort this year. We talked about trying to get a quick round in at Grass Clippings and wanted to hear from you guys.

I called earlier and they do have carts available (have an older family member with us) and they have rental clubs for $60 (first come first served). What I had in mind was more of a casual round. Take 4 clubs, mix and match tees, and grab a beer or two along the way.

I've never been there, but it's a par 3 course at night.  I'm not sure you can mix and match tees.  In the daytime, there are some longer holes.  The course isn't new, but the lights are.  I'll probably play it next summer when I return.

I could be wrong but pretty sure they changed up some routing on the course, grew in some new areas, tees, greens, etc as well. I think it's a bit disingenuous to say all they did was add lights.

At night it is a par 3 so I would assume the bottom tee box on the scorecard is what is used. They are mixing between grass tee boxes and mats depending on play I have heard. Regarding renovations completely redesigned the 9th hole and specifically the green. New tee boxes and irrigation. With who they have hired for agronomy it should improve over the years.

I didn't say that at all.  I suggest you not use words (disingenuous) that you don't understand.

Seems to fit the definition fairly well.  Merry Christmas.

The course has been around the decades.  I didn't know if the OP knew that since he said the course had opened a few weeks ago.  It doesn't fit the definition at all.

Thanks for the clarification. You’re right, I didn’t know the history of the place. I have seen it a couple of times going to and from the zoo but never knew the name or anything.

It appears the company managing it is new, the business model, and possibly a few holes have been rerouted?

Tempe’s Grass Clippings At Rolling Hills Golf Course Reopening For Night Play | All About Arizona News

New irrigation, new management company, new lighting, new tees, re route of 9th hole, new F&B, new event spaces. So yes, while it's been around for decades it's undergone a pretty significant face lift from the previous dust bowl it was and is headed in what I believe to be a great direction. Perhaps I'm being a bit pedantic (sure hope I used that right) but to gloss over what's been happening there is a bit unfair to the management crew that actually is making a difference.

Do you work there or something?

Folks on AZ Golfers Facebook board have said it's $80 to play.  Some have claimed to have gotten on for $60, but didn't reveal how they got that rate.  The tees are a combination of mats and grass on Monday-Thursday and all grass on Friday-Sunday.  It's an active thread, so I'll let you know more if anything worthwhile is posted.

Sounds like they've done a lot of work.  My intent was never to gloss over anything.  Again, I've never been there.  I was merely sharing what I have read with the OP.
