Hitting old Mizuno mp37 further than mp 221. Not sure why.

So I had been playing the mp 37's for 16 years or so before switching to the 221's a year and half ago.  At the time I was just wanting a change.  Back then I had about 6-10 yds more distance with comparable feel from the 221's so I switched, same shafts project x lz 6.5.   Recently, I went in trying the mizuno pro 24x series and almost got the 243's as they felt great, but distance wasn't really any better i.e. my 221 6i (30*)goes almost the same as the 243 7i (32*).   That got me thinking about just how much company's manipulate golf clubs just for incremental distance increases.  

 

So I got out my mp37's, had their loft and lie adjusted to match my 221's.  I found I was hitting the mp37's 4-6 yds longer on average.  My longest with my MP37 7i was 181yds while 175 was my 221's max.  

 

The 221's do feel a bit heavier, but just never noticed it until trying all the different models.  Should I just adjust the swing weight or maybe just game the 37's?  I feel like I don't necessarily get much more forgiveness with the 221's although they should with the higher mass behind the face.  

 

Just curious if others who have played muscles backs have found little to no improvement with newer models. At the very least the 221's do feel softer.  Thanks for any input.

If the 37's work use them. I had 33,37 and felt 33 was softer. Loved the shape of both. Got a swing weight scale? Handy to have.
