Question regarding shafts, DG 105 S300 vs Nippon 950GH Neo

Recommended Posts

Hi all, not sure if this question is even relevant if they are even close to the same shaft.

Originally fit into the Nippon 950s due to it working with my swing better, but as it got faster, shots seemed to have started to balloon. Playing 225s, and am wondering if the DG 105 S300s would even be worth switching to as they are from what I read a Mid launch iron shaft. If I am wrong please correct me.

Won't say you're wrong.

I am not an instructor, but it's possible the ballooning is not the result of the shaft not working with your 225 heads and now faster swing.  Both are stiff shafts with similar weight and launch, and Mizuno Pro 225 heads have strong lofts but tend to be on the low spin side.  IMO more likey a swing/AoA/spin issue, best to get fit.

I have a set of T100S strong lofted irons, now in storage.  They didn't work with my swing because I generated too much spin.

You can try the DG 105, but staying with Nippon you may really want to consider the Modus 105.  It will be stiffer than the 950, especially in the tip and it is a mid launch mid spin shaft....more stable than the NS Pro 950.  The DG 105 and Modus 105 are good to compare against each other.  Another shaft to throw in the ring is the new DG Mid shafts.  They have the DG 100 Mid which is also similar to the Modus 105, on paper at least.

I might take a look at the Modus 105, might have to do some testing between the two with a 7 iron and commit to one of them. and then once the commitment happens get the black version of the shafts haha

950's and the 105's are pretty similar in weight.   Maybe try the Nippon + TT 115 and 120 weights in both products, and might as well test the KBS stuff also.  If the ballooning is a shaft issue!

I would call the feeling of the Modus 105 and the DG105 nearly similar. But the 950neo feels different. The older NS Pro 1050 was a nice one, in feeling and stability.

This was going to be my vote. If you like the  feel of the 950’s, wouldn’t the 1050’s be a logical choice to try? I just re-shafted with the 1050’s and really like them so far. To me they are as different from DG105’s as Recoils are from Steelfibers.
