Utility irons - Srixon ZX MKII vs. Ping iCrossover

Looking to get one of these soon to replace the 4-5 iron spot in my bag.  I would be getting the 23* models and bending them or adjusting the loft sleeve to play at 24*.  I currently have the original Ping G Crossover and I like the ease of use and higher launch.  Does anyone have experience hitting these two clubs??  Pros, cons, etc.  Also open to other utility options, but those are the main two I am looking at currently.

  • Taylormade Qi10 LS at 10.5° - Ventus TR Blue
  • Callaway Ai Smoke Triple D (3) 15° - Project X Denali Blue 70
  • Callaway Ai Smoke Triple D (7) 20° -  Mitsubishi Tensei Blue
  • Ping G Crossover 4 - Mitsubishi MMT
  • Srixon ZX5 MKII Black Chrome 5-W, A
  • Titleist SM10 55°F , 60°M
  • Odyssey Ai-One Milled Eight T

The old G Crossover was a very bulky and ugly club, good performance ok, but did not suit my eye. Also the older Srixon ZU85 did not like….
the ZX Utility MK2 is smaller than the ZU85 version and comes with less offset. The Ping iCrossover is also smaller than the G.Crossover but slightly bigger than the Srixon with slightly more offset. So you can choose what’s better for your game in terms of head size and offset. The Ping has an adjustable hosel what I personally like

I'm well aware of the differences in looks and offset.  I was mainly inquiring about the performance of each of the other two clubs.  Launch, forgiveness, etc.

I would give the edge for forgiveness to the Ping. The new ZX utility isn’t totally forgiving on low or toe strikes. Forgiving yes, but you won’t get away with murder.

Before I bought the Srixon ZXU MK2 I was hitting some different Utilities and the Ping was one of them. Forgiving it was, but feel of the face and ballflight was not on the same level. I did test 6 utility irons and I would recommend this to everyone. The Srixon was the only one that I hit well from the first shot.

to be honest, I do not remember the details of ball flight and ball speed and all the data.

I tested all you mentioned a few series ago and the Ping won hands down for me.

Was the Ping very easy to launch?  Was it a higher flight than say your 3,4, or 5 iron? (depending on which one it replaced in your bag)

I had a 2 iron, 410 series, 17* with stock regular flex, 70 CB Ping shaft. It was definitely easy to hit and launch. it just felt better than the other two to me. Was more of a tee club than anything for me. Sorry if there’s confusion, as you’re more interested in the 3-5 sounds like.
