How accurate are these team rankings?  What about for individuals?

It shows that the men's team that came in last at the Cabo Collegiate by 137 strokes is #198 among all D1 teams.  Does that mean there are 108 D1 teams that would have fared even worse?

Stop cyberbullying. What have you ever done in the game to even comment on the 137 strokes? If you have done something worthy...well, you're still a cyber bully. If you don't see it, I will define it for you and everyone for that matter.

Don't you know IVY kids do school work? That they been in winter? That their school is lacking in facilities? That IVY schools can't recruit because they don't give out athletic scholarships? That if the same kids had warm weather, they'd be every bit as good as the top teams? Wait til some of them go off to warm climates in grad year.

😶😇

The new ranking system is better than anything that has previously existed. It takes into account finish position, stroke differential and strength of field. It’s excellent. And Columbia sucks

Scoreboard/Clippd rankings are a complete failure. The NCAA coaches can't stand it and that is fact. Mark Broadie has no business being involved. From Individual rankings to Team ranking they are inaccurate. Worse on the women's side than the men's side for whatever reason. A Points system does not work for collegiate golf, period. There are so many things wrong with the rankings I don't even know where to begin. A book could be written with the faults the coaches and others have found. It hurts D3 the most because the rankings are actually used to determine who is playing in the National Championship. The rankings are so bad, the NCAA has decided along with the coaches that they will use the Collegiate Coaches Rankings rather than Scoreboard Rankings. Golf Stat and Golfweek rankings are far superior.

It is better off to play in the weakest event a team an find, win by 30 strokes, than to play in a deep field and win by 1 stroke. It is laughable how bad the rankings by Clippd are. To the outside world, they are just rankings. To the coaches, players, and parents it is disgusting what the NCAA has done.

A strokes gained concept does not work for team golf. It doesn't work because SG is based off like fields as well as like course set ups. College golf does not have this. Head to Head is of little consideration and within team golf the most important aspect. In several Zoom Meetings coaches from every level (D1, D2, D3) have shared their disgust with Clippd/NCAA and this is fact.

Amen!

Ranking results are hard as it takes a combination of understanding golf - AND knowing how to develop software.

Add to this having NCAA involved & you just know it’s going to be a mess. If this were a stock, it could be either Enron or WeWorks.

JGS has zero incentives to improve & my sense is they’re milking it as a cash cow & no interest in making it better. There’s lots of flaws with their current set up favoring certain regions & fields.

Also, they need to increase the minimum # of events to 6 or 7 (currently only 4 required) & make it mandatory tournaments within 4 months or they get dropped. Too many international & parents gaming the system & haven’t played in 6+ months…but Mac wants as players as possible on this database so he can pitch to coaches.

Lastly, I’m cheering for Junior Golf Hub but after waiting for 4 years of promises; they’re still 1-2 years from a real ranking system. This goes back to my point #1 that they lack software expertise (or ability to manage software developers).

Rankings are created for a reason.  The NCAA wants to protect the top programs.  How else can you get 12-15 kids on team when less then half will play.

not sure I follow the logic.

How does this ratio compare w football or baseball (or lax) - isn’t it also about same % of kids not playing?

"Interestingly, the Oversight Committee also voted against the Women’s Golf Committee’s recommendation to require teams to have a .500 or better record against opponents during the regular season in order to be eligible for at-large berths into the NCAA post-season. This .500 rule has be in force for the men’s championships since the 2007-’08 season. The Oversight Committee noted a concern that including the .500 rule would negatively impact scheduling by potentially weakening, rather than strengthening tournament fields."

I guess this is why top D1 teams invite Ivy's to their tournaments?

Another podcast by D3 Golf Guys on why the Rankings are awful.  This is at the back end of the show.

https://www.d3golfguys.com/podcast/episode/7c412cdc/episode-24-more-spring-break-results-and-a-clippd-rankings-disaster

There are literally kids not on teams regular lineups, they won or played well in JV tournaments that are ranked in the top 10. Every coach at every program in America feel the rankings need a lot of work. To say they are awful is putting it lightly.
