Wedges set up with 51 degree Gap

My gap wedge is 51 degree. My current set up is 46, 51, 56, 60. I got recommended on vokey site to do 50, 54, 60. My question is if I keep my gap wedge because it’s only a year old. Would I be better off in a 54 or 56. Only use that club for far bunker shots and 75 to full swing shots. Not a chipping club.

I'm a slow swinger, so I find that a 54 out of the bunker is closer to my normal swing to get the ball to the middle of the green.

What works best for you out of a typical bunker lie?

Unless you are really dialed in, one degree of change (51 to 50) should not be that noticeable given your gap wedge (like mine) is more of a full shot club. If it works for you and your distance is good with it, then I'd keep it and focus on getting your sand and lob wedges dialed (both loft and bounce) in to score better.

Wedges seem to have a personality to them.  My suggestion is to buy a wedge you don't own and still keep what you have, that way swapping clubs is as easy as going to the closet and switch them out.  Buy the 54 if you don't already have one but don't sell a good performing wedge to finance it. 

 

I used to buy, sell, and trade wedges (except for a special 58*) on a regular basis.  I say used to because now if it works for me it stays.  I might switch out clubs for different reasons in the bag but it's with clubs I already have.

 

A for instance is that today I took a 54 and 60 out and replaced them with a 52 and 58 that I already own.

Yea I wouldn’t worry about what the lofts are, especially if you aren’t using for full swings.  Bounce is more important at that point.  I pick my wedges for yardage.  I had a 54 that I just hit too far, just over 110 yards and it was had on 100 yard shots for me, I got a 56 that I haven’t played with enough but I think I’ll be able to get 100 out of it, bent my 54 to 52 so now should get over closer to 120 and my PW is around 130.

That Vokey club selector is pointless. Stick with your lofts. Maybe consider its sole grind recommendations. Maybe.

 

I also play 51 56 60, and find the 4-5° gaps easier to manage than any 6° gaps I’ve tried. The 56° is my go to wedge for around the green in neutral situations, 51° for lower trajectory/spin or more uphill, 60° for higher trajectory/spin or more downhill. PW is also in play a lot for chipping near the green, say with 30ft or more to work with.

This is spot on. For me the highest wedges I have in my 54 low bounce and the 57 is very high bounce. I don't care to full swing them or worry about the "gaps".
