Mizuno 2024 fli hi driving iron solved problems

Recommended Posts

I haven’t been able to figure out the top of my bag for quite some time.

Between a driver and a five iron has been up in the air. I’ve done everything from three hybrids to carrying Fairway woods and everything in between.

Enter the Mizuno driving iron stock rdx black 6.0 shaft

I hit a two iron the other day. I’m able to hit it somewhat consistently off the deck but off the tee it’s magic

I’m easily able to get 5 wood distance out of this thing and it is stupid straight

likely going to set up that’s driving iron 7 wood not sure what else got one spot left 👍

I usually play on windy afternoons and have found the New Level utility irons (18* and 21* with Recoil ES, model NLU-01) to be great lower-flighted replacements for my hybrids.  At the time I acquired them, they were one of the few LH options available, with Ping being a notable alternative, but the New Level were on sale for a ridiculously low price.  I'm a big Mizuno fan and probably would have looked closely at the Pro Fli-Hi if it was available a few years ago.  Have you hit it into greens yet?  How does it hold for you?

I doubt I’d attempt to hold a green with it from off the deck.

It seems I can actually tee it up at fairway wood height and hit it high but off the deck it’s going to roll.

I have the 3 iron version, but my buddy has the 2 and I have used it.

It is the best club I have ever purchased, I can hit towering tee shots or low stingers. I regularly hit my 3 off the turf and it has the height and spin to hold greens pretty easily. Again, this may not be true with the 2, but in my experience it really is a fantastic utility club.

I have both the Fli-Hi and the New Level, and the biggest difference for me is the shape. The new level looks much longer, and the Mizuno has a much more "traditional" shape. I find the NL easier to hit off the deck, and the Mizuno to be faster off the face. The loft has a lot to play in the differences, but the Mizuno is anywhere from a 250-280 club depending on the shot shape and the NL is a consistent 240-245 yard club.

HY another DI convert! Now comes the process of molding your bag around the addiction of a driving iron. Lol I can see you playing the rest of the bag two ways (at least this is how i've tried).

1. You add in a 3w/4w above the DI and then a club that goes the same distance as the DI but from off the turf. Personally had trouble rationalizing keeping two clubs for the same distance in my bag. YMMV

2. You add in a 4w/5w specifically for off the turf usage and just keep the DI for the fairway finders. For me this was a shallow fwy wood head like the ping 430 with a shaft that got the ball UP. Shallow face makes it ugly to try off a tee too lol. The last spot would go to one of your hybrids for the 4i spot (the 24* I assume). Only issue is if you get into a yardage gap from hybrid to 4w/5w, you have to finesse something, which shouldn't really be an issue unless you consistently play a par 3 at that yardage.

Bonus option 3, you drop a wedge, and add a mini driver above the 4w/5w because you're now obsessed with fine tuning the top of your bag.

Exact same issue. Tried Srixon Mkii 2 and 4 hybrids, 7w and a few UIs. A Paradym X 3HL with a shorter 42.75” shaft and either the Srixon Mkii 3UI or the Titleist u505 between driver and 5i seems to work the best for me. Agree, the utilities are more consistent.

  1.

Driver = Callaway Rogue ST Max w Kai’li White 60S

3HL= Callaway Paradym X w Tensei Blue AV 65S

2UI = Titleist u505 w Hzrdus Black 6.0
5-PW = XXIO X 12 w N.S. Pro 950GH Neo DST

Wedges = Cobra Snakebite 48 | 52 | 58

Putter = Wilson Staff 8802, 2024 version

Ball = AVX

I have a round and some practice in with the three iron head and Linq shaft. Launch is medium height, very easy off the deck. Feels better than the last model. Not a big hybrid or fairway wood guy so this is a good, versatile club.

I hit the crossover but didn't love it. I'm currently going back and forth between the Cobra 4 utility and the Fli-hi 3 depending on what course I'm playing.

Option 2 simplifies the search for a proper 3/4/5 wood as a bonus!

I may try the Crossover. I had the 2024 Fli Hi 4 and my one quibble is I did not love the wide sole off the deck. I found I was more comfortable with a P770 off turf but it is not as fast a face. The Fli Hi is really hot and I hit great shots off tees. It is a great club, no doubt, definitely better than the previous version and my favorite of all the utility clubs I have tried. And I could hit it off the deck but did not hit it as consistently as I like. Could have been the shaft as I went steel instead of graphite.
