More Forgiving: P790 vs. P*DHY

Which would be more forgiving in a 2 & 3 Iron? Currently have a P790 3-Iron & a GAPR Mid 18* as my 2-Iron but thinking of changing to P*DHY? Thoughts on Forgiveness & Control & Ease to Hit?

Can only speak to P-DHY. It’s as forgiving as an any long iron I’ve ever hit. Went straight into the bag. Phenomenal club.

Gapr should be similar to dhy. Dhy should be more forving than 790. I would get 3 dhy first and try it out.

FWIW with every swing I love the DHY more and more.  Very easy to hit and accurate.

 

I think only thing is that it's not quite a Mizuno pro fli hi or Srixon ZX/ZU in terms of buttery soft feel.  The flipside is that (for me) it's much easier to get airborne ala hybrid but look of a (bulky) iron.  Excellent off the tee and fairway, hit a couple out of rough last week with solid results too.

 

Even bulk isn't too bad, hides better than say the ZU85.  Just a little thicc.

I made the switch from P790 3i to P DHY 3i. Same shaft and SW for both so as like for like as possible. Mainly was looking to switch for height/stopping power, which I definitely get from the DHY.

 

I find the DHY more consistent on distance. Mis-hits fall off a bit less IMO and I haven’t gotten any low, no-spin knuckleballs which carry an extra 15y and roll another 20 with the DHY. Those with the P790 were great off the tee, but horrible into long Par 3s, Par 5s. It is consistently 15-20ft+ higher and spinnier than the P790. So if I were to play a links course over in GB I think I would put the 3i back in play instead however as summer hits in SoCal I’ll take the extra stopping power. 
 

The look took some getting used to, but it’s not too dissimilar to the GAPR Mid if my memory serves me correctly. I’ve only got a GAPR Lo still kicking around, I wish the DHY had its adjustability!

P790 is more closely related to the P-UDI than the P DHY.

 

Agree with previous post it looks better than the ZU85 with the satin and softer edges but that srixon ZU85 feels miles better. Makes it feel hotter too but in reality, it's probably minuscule. 

 

Highly doubt Scottie's 2 ZU85s are coming out of the bag anytime soon for the P DHY even tho they made that for him to replace.

P-DHY is SUPER forgiving, I have always hit it pure. 

 

However, I had the same problem with it that I had with the Titleist U505....It gets way too high for me. 

 

I cannot keep it down enough for it to gain the distance it should. So I went with a T200 Utility build 4 iron for that reason.

Thank You all for your feedback & opinions! Has anyone tried to bend their DHY to adjust Loft &/or Lie & also, does anyone know if they’re a .355 or a .370 tip diameter?

I ordered mine 0.5 degrees strong and 1 upright directly from TM. I had reshafted at a local shop and it measured 0.7 strong (19.3) and 0.2 upright which I left as is. Unsure on diameter as TM offers both 355 and 370 shaft options. I would think that means 355 and prepping the 370s instead of the opposite and shimming but unsure

I have the DHY. You can have them bent. I like it a lot. I do not care for the Srixon utilities in feel or performance off the turf. The Srixons have fat soles and to me they have the trampoline feel, the P-DHY feels more solid and I find it easier to hit off any lie. I unloaded the Srixon (I do love the Z Forged II irons!) and like the TM designs a lot more in longer irons because the soles tend to be thinner but they still get up quick. I ordered the 3 DHY bent 1 weak. The 770, 790 and DHY are all easy to hit long irons.
