Ally Ewing grip

Noticed Ally Ewing's unusual way of gripping club.

Not that unusual, just a 10 finger grip (sometimes misnamed as a baseball grip).

 

Matilda Castren uses it, too.

She seems like she would be really cool to play a casual round of golf with....that "baseball" grip is most likely a result of her growing up playing multiple sports including baseball/softball.  She is/was a tomboy for sure and very talented.  I heard she was quite the basketball player.  I've tried that type of grip, but it feels weird on a golf club to me.  I grew up playing baseball, but was taught the golf grip at a young age.

Being right handed, I feel like if I had my left thumb removed this grip might work.

I have used a 10 finger grip for 42 years. What's the big deal?

 

I have tried interlocking and overlapping grips. I lose power and control. I have small hands and learned this grip early.

 

I also played baseball, and this is NOT a baseball grip. The left thumb still is on top/down the grip. I never gripped a bat that way.

 

Ed Fiori was probably the last PGA pro to use it from what I recall.

I have a shredded capsule/joint in my right hand pinky (as well as a bone spur where it had been broken) and there were stretches 20 years ago when it was really hurting and I had to switch to 10 finger.    It was fine and you get used to it, but I hooked the heck out of the ball way too easily.

I have a conventional grip, but this thread reminds me that I might need to switch to this grip with advancing age. My right-hand ring finger and pinky are killing me! Injuries, age, arthritis...

It's very rare at pro level so it is unusual. When I was younger the only pro I was aware of that used it was Ronan Rafferty.
