How much difference does 15g make?

My question is, how much of a difference does 15g of weight make?

I have been struggling with my speed control for a bit, but my line is really good. I use a Odyssey White Hot OG #7 currently, and have used a #7 model putter for the past decade. Recently I had a cousin who came into town and we got on the course, and he used a SC Golo 5. I played 9 holes with it, and my speed was very good with it, but my alignment was not. In looked at the specs of the two putters, there appears to be about a 15g difference in weight (350 vs 365). I was thinking I if I could keep the line of the #7 with the heavier weight, that I may feel a bit more comfortable putting. I am crazy for thinking this?

My particular putter does not have weights, so I do not have that as an option. I would either have to sell it and get one with heavier weights, or put a good bit of lead tape. I wanted to ask people smarter than me before I started the process.

IME there's a noticeable difference.

I have two 15 gram weights in my 34" SC California Monterey, D5 SW and 360g head weight, vs the below SC Newport 2 Plus which is 10 grams lighter.

Yesterday, out of sheer curiosity, I messed with an SC Newport 2 Plus, it was an 1" longer than mine, with two 10g weights in the head, and I could hardly feel the head though a stroke, making it squirrely.

The extra length was nice, but to make putts, I had to seriously slow down my takeaway but where it felt squirrely was the follow though. The weight difference between the two putters was enough to make me realize how comfortable I still am with my 2012 heavy SC putter.

15 is quite a bit of wt.

but my gamers go anywhere between 340 and 360

i can definitely tell the difference between them but it’s not crazy enough to make me not play them all

It could also be that the combo of the WH insert + weight of the #7 doesn’t jive with you.

It’s possible that you’d do fine with that insert and the right head weight.

Also possible that you’d be fine on the existing head weight with a different face material/insert.

Speed control can be naturally good with certain combos, and may take lots of practice with other combos. The tough part is figuring out what that natural combo for you is.

15 is a noticeable amount.. speed control and misses to the right (right handed) may sneak up on ya… then when practiced you my love it with adjustments.

I Love heavier putters on 10 ft and less.. long ones though.. I need something I’m used to, consistent feel. (Practiced)

It's a big difference IMO. I have no speed control at 365, but at 340 to maybe 350 it feels perfect in my hands. At 340 I need a small grip like PP58 for it to feel right. That's not for everyone though. A lot of people like the heavier heads.

15g is a lot. At Edel we fit for aim and speed aside from toe flow. We move weight through the entire putter during a fit and it blows peoples minds how much it changes things. I highly recommend getting a fitting so you don't have to guess.

Just going by my experience, when I use a noticeably heavier putter head, i tend not to release the putter head like I normally would.(slight arc in my putting stroke) so I notice I miss more putts to the right, this can be practiced away just as speed control can and til you become accustomed to that weight, I’m a feel putter, always will be. Enjoy the journey
