Grimace,

I'll add you in. Hopefully your hand will be okay for the start of the season.

Thanks.

Got good news today. Did not do anymore structural damage to my hand (ie. no new break and no damage to the prior fracture that I had), but I need to get a cortisone shot to try and relieve the swelling (which hurts like all heck). If all goes to plan I can start swinging a club again in a few days.

Great to hear the news is good. I'm sure your GAP team would not be happy if you couldn't play. What clubs did you draw this year? Blue Bell I has Little Mill, Scranton and Brookside (Pottstown). I'm probably going to be away for Scranton and unsure about the other two.

We drew Heidelberg (near Reading), Wyncote and Hershey's Mill. I am playing away at all 3. CC of Scranton is a nice course and was my home club growing up. You will enjoy the course a lot if you make the trip up. And yes, some of the guys at my club were happy to hear my stupidity should not knock me out of the team events.

In my one season at Raven's Claw I played at Heidelberg (white tees). It's not a bad track, but nothing to write home about. I recall a bunch of driver/flip wedge holes and a horrible 18th green (severely slopes from left to right - I remember my opponent hitting what I thought was well left of the pin and then all of a sudden seeing a ball scooting from left to right). Aside from that there are some nice par 3's (2 is a really nice 165 yarder that's all carry)

Wyncote's a nice track that I think we have discussed quite a bit and I'm not a fan of Hershey's Mill.

BTW, back on topic, we are now up to 5 confirmed and I'm assuming that cdesena will play so that makes 6. 2 more and I will book the times.

I used to be a member at Little Mill, they are trying to clear out some trees in order to give the greens more sun and air. I hope it pays off!!

The greens are usually best early in the year, so I am sure you will enjoy it.

I have a friend Tom M. that plays on your GAP team. Good guy with a hell of a short game.

I have not met him yet. I was new to the club last year and did not play in a lot of club events, I kind of just stuck to my normal early Saturday time and got a game with anyone that was around.

I am not sure what the rush is to book tee times this early, we still have 2 1/2 months until the date of the outing. I can get guests out at either of my clubs with little or no notice to the pro shop.

The pro at BB asked me to give him as much advance notice as possible so I'm just trying to be considerate of his request (this is the pro's first year at BB, so I think he wants to go by the "book" as much as possible).

Having 2 groups of guests on a weekend is a little bit out of the ordinary, which is probably why he wants me to book it as soon as I can (not to mention that he is doing me a favor by putting us out first after the morning split tees are finished).

I'll give you both pars on 7 and 8 and I'll play from two down. How's that sound? ^^

(only teasing)

I mean, Glen Mills is nice, but not absolutely necessary. I am only playing for the comradery of the community here. I hope that we can figure something out to make it fun.

Alternatives:

Scotland Run

Makefield Highlands

I agree and don't really care where we play, just want to get out and have some fun. To be honest, I am not a huge fan of Blue Bell but have no problems playing there is that is what the group decides. I threw out Glen Mills to see if that sparked any interest or brought a few more people into the mix since it is a highly regarded track in the area.

And Mizunogrrl......I will take 2 a side from you since I am hitting the driver everywhere these days:)

I do not recall the 7th hole but the 8th hole needs a bulldozer for the green.

220 yard uphill par 3 to a green that is a landing strip that, oh by the way, has 3 or 4 severe tiers. From the back tee to the top tier it's 240. To make it even worse there's no place to miss left or right either.

Either way, the offer for Blue Bell is still open if we can find 2 more (assuming cdesana is playing). I told the pro that I am still waiting for confirmation and he told me it wasn't a problem.

  • 2 weeks later...
I am officially out for the outing in June. My left hand will be going into a cast for the next two weeks and then I will be having surgery to repair the ligament damage. My season is pretty much over at this point.

Sorry to hear that. Hope you heal fast.

Thanks. I am bummed out to no end today.

Am I to assume that you didn't play GAP yesterday? If you did, what did you think of Heidelberg?

I actually did play yesterday since we could not get a replacement for me on short notice. As you can imagine I did not play well by held my own considering I played with one good hand. I thought the course had some nice views and some good holes, but still not my style of golf. The only reason I did not get beat that bad was that it was a driver/flip wedge course for the most part. I drove #1 and #3 to start my round and then made 2 birds on 10 and 11 to stay in it for the team. When I was able to stay in the game that I had I scored well, but there were just too many shots that I simply could not hit. #18 may be one of the worst finishing holes that I have played, bad tee shot, bad lay-up and a terrible green. I was also not a fan of fast poa greens that are not rolled, putts just did not hold their line.

In the end I did not win any points, but as a team we won by 4 points and had I not played we would have lost the overall match. At least I was able to contribute a little there.

I will continue to monitor, I would love to play but the 14th is bad for me (I work every other weekend). My work schedule is a bit odd, weekdays can work depending how the chips fall.

I had to bail out of the Harrisburg outing because of a back injury, and I would love to participate in a gathering like this.

Well , off to the doctor, I hope he gives me the green light to start rehab and start swinging again.
