Eastern PA Golf outing

Sometime in June.....
There have been a few threads already about setting up an outing in Harrisburg and South Jersey in April. I can't make either due to GAP schedule, club events and the fact that if I schedule any more golf for April I will be living in my shed, but have been contacted by a few people interested in having a get together near Philly one Saturday (or Sunday) in June. Based on interest and date we can plan a game at a course to be determined by responses of where people would like to play. My choices would be somewhere like Wyncote or Broad Run, but I am open to any suggestions that people have.

PM or respond here if you are interested.

I played at Broad Run once last year in an outing and it was in pretty good shape. They have really cut their rates in hopes of increasing play, but I am not too sure it is working. There have been some rumors that the management company that runs Hartefeld and Innescrone was interested in the property should it come up for sale. With the economic downturn I am not sure if this still holds true or not.

The basic problem with Broad Run (and Wyncote for that matter) is that it is just so freaking far from Montgomery county, Philadelphia, etc. As much as I like both courses, playing there is basically a full day event.

As for the topic at hand, a June date would work best for me as my April (trip to Augusta and St. Augustine) and May (trip to Kohler) are booked. Again, if there is enough interest I'd be happy to look into Blue Bell CC for the event. Feel free to PM me if interested.

How would Blue Bell on either the 14th or 28th of June work?

I have been informed that I am taking my son to see Thomas the Tank Engine on the 19th and then to the beach for a weekend of surfing. So any Saturday besides that will work for me.

The only thing I will have to see is if I how many times I can reserve on a Saturday morning. The 28th is definitely out as it is the first day of the Member/Member, but the 14th is open.

If I can get a general idea of how many people would be interested I could go to the pro and see what I can work out.

I was not even thinking about Blue Bell and being able to get that many people out......private club on a weekend more than likely will not work. The 14th seems like a good date, now we just need to decide on a course.

You'd be surprised what Blue Bell will do. If BB was member-owned obviously it would never happen. However, since BB is not member-owned, it's a possibility, especially if I have a group of 4 or more members playing as well.

As I said, if I can get an idea of how many people want to play I will talk to my pro. It sounds like there are at least 4 interested so far. If that is it, I don't think it will be a problem.

I'm really excited to try to put this thing together (I hope I'm not stepping on anyone's toes that has done it in the past).

With this in mind, can those who are interested please PM me. When you PM please indicate if you can play during the week or not. If everyone can play during the week (especially if it's a Tuesday) I think BB would be pretty accommodating. If not I can probably reserve the times, but I don't know how much of a break they will give me on greens fees.

As I posted, there are no events planned for Saturday, June 14th so that date can work if a weekday isn't manageable for the majority.

i am in pm details

No details as of yet aside from a June 14th date and possibly at Blue Bell Country Club.

If I can get a total of 8 or more I'll pursue BBCC as an option and see what the cost per player will be. Right now we stand at 5 (including me).

Can I get an idea of what times people would want to play?

My initial thinking is if we have 2 groups plus at least 1 group of my "regular" guys that we could do 2 best balls out of 4, closest to the pin on 2 par 3's and skats. Any other ideas?

I am in for a weekend only round as well. I have taken off enough time this summer for tournaments and qualifiers.

What tourneys and qualifiers do you play in?

I have already played the first GAP Winter event this year and I am playing the GAP team matches as well as my club championship, the PA Am and PA Mid-Am, Philly Publinks events (One Day, Three Day team and Open). There may be a chance that I play the Dressler at Dauphin Highlands, but I think I may pass on that.

Ok, gang, I spoke with the pro at Blue Bell about June 14.

The only snag is that the Couples championship is scheduled for that day so an early morning tee time won't be possible. To complicate things a little Blue Bell does split tees in the summer, so the last "early" tee time is around 9 before the 1st tee opens again at 11:00. However, I was told that I could reserve the first times when the tee re-opens (translated we would have a wide open course in front of us). So, given that some people are coming from an hour or more away maybe this would work out? The cost will be $95 per player.

So, based on this information, who would still be interested in Blue Bell being the site for the Eastern PA Golfwrx.com outing? If 7 will commit (me being 8) I will go ahead and tell the pro to put us in. I'm hoping that I can get at least 4 of my regular guys to participate as well to have 3 groups.

I will be at the GAP Mid Am qualifier at White Clay Creek Country Club May 5th. I also will be playing for Medford Village team #1 in the GAP matches. I also plan on playing the GAP AM qualifier and the NJ Mid AM and AM Qualifiers, that is why I am limited to weekend play only.

I will be down at White Clay Creek and playing for McCall #1 as well so long as the MRI on my hand goes well today (I had a minor accident over the weekend). If you have not played the course yet, then I suggest that you try and do it before the qualifier. It is a long track, but not a bombers paradise as it is more target golf.

Confirmed for 6/14 at Blue Bell Country Club (11:10 first tee time)

1. Me

2. jfzhorseman

3. DieselMp32

4. Grimace45

5. Mizunogrrl

Please continue to either PM or respond here if interested. As soon as 8 are confirmed I will book the times.

Just looking ahead a little bit, am I safe to assume that playing the blue tees (6598 yards, 72.0/130) would be acceptable to all?
