pre-loved golf balls

who uses them?
Hello all!

So my mate and I were just wandering around uni the other day, and at our uni there is an area where there are stalls which sell various things. We come across a stall that is selling sports equipment and we noticed this guy's got some golf balls for sale. Upon further inspection, he had some pretty damn good deals on offer. The balls are separated into two bags and one would be your 'mid range' balls and the other was of the 'premium' variety.

The 'mid range' balls were mainly used NXT Tour, 333, Softfeel, e5/e6, which aren't bad balls by any means. Turns out this guy gets his supply from water hazards mostly, so the condition of the balls were excellent. I'd say the worst of those would still get a solid 8.5/10, no scruffs or anything. He was selling them for $10/dozen so we bought 6 each to start with. He also had premium balls like Pro V, 330, One Black/Plat, TP Black/Red and Z-UR for $20/dozen, which I thought was still a good deal.

So does anyone here also play pre-loved balls? If so then what do you think about them?
At the prices that I bought those ones at it looks like I won't be buying new balls for a while lol

Used golf balls can be a great way to get high quality balls for a good price.

But like anything else, you are going to find quality all over the market. Personally I'd be wary of a guy with a very limited supply of balls out of a stall.

But some of the bigger companies with high volume are great to deal with. Here in the US, I'm a loyal customer to lostgolfballs.com. I've order many dozen over the years and have yet to find one that didn't play EXACTLY like a new one for a fraction of the price.

While I do think there may be some scientific merit to the 'water ball theory', I think most of it is an urban myth spread by the golf ball manufacturers. After all, used golf balls sales cut directly into their bottom line. Golf is a game of confience. If I ever had an inkling about doubt about the quality of an LGB ball, I wouldn't put in in play.

I have found a couple of vendors with whom i have had great experiences with and use experienced balls for all but tournament rounds. I get the top rated balls and usually pay 60% of retail. The key is not to look for the best possible deal but a good deal from a reputable vendor. Most top rated balls will have logos or marker markings on them but the ones i get have no scuffs, scratches or visible play markings. I buy prov1's and callaway blacks this way.

My GF's mom golfs all the time and collects balls while she's playing... and she usually keeps a couple milk crates full of balls.

She doesn't really know the difference between the balls at all, and prefers to use harder balls for more distance. She tells me to help myself, so I basically have loads of Pro V1s, HX Tours, Nikes ONEs, all of those balls....

It's nice! And I have no problem playing free used $4 balls.

I used to play used beat up golf balls all the time. Now that I care about my score, I started to buy my own balls, however, I'll still pick up balls I find and play them on tougher tee shots in case there's a fat water hazard in the way.

Funny I play used balls during practice rounds used prov 1s are just better for practice rounds. But then again I 6 days a week.

I ALWAYS buy used golf balls from lostgolfballs.com. I recently bought 4 dozen bridgestone e5 for around 50 bucks and the quality was absolutely awesome. out of the 48 balls i got, every single one looks like new and only TWO logo balls! i've bought used balls from many other sellers and always end up with scuffs and logos on every other ball. i highly recommend lostgolfballs.com!!!!!!!!!

I get so many ProV1's, Nike Ones and Calli Hx tours from my brother who works on a private country club. I used to caddy there when I was in high school and those guys have way to much money. They hit ProV's into the trees and don't even bother to look for them. I have about 150 top line balls, most of which were hit only a couple of times. I haven't bought any new balls in over a year.

I've been purchasing used balls online from an ebay store called lostgolfballs.com for over 2 years. I've bought a few lots of Srixon ZURS and a lot of HX Tours, probably about 100 balls overall and I'd say amazing quality, I'll always buy from there in the future. Pay about a buck a ball for the Srixons.

Honestly the balls are in 9 or 9.5 of 10 condition, no kidding.

Another for lostgolfballs.

As a poor college student I simply cannot afford to pay for high end golf balls at retail price.

I purchased 6 dozens of AAAA grade of Tour B330s and all of them are in excellent condition as described with few logos.

Couple years ago I purchased some NXT Tours from them and they shipped the order 1 ball short. They immediately shipped out 3 more balls to me at no cost.

I work at a metal recycling center and have a guy that is always on foot selling his aluminum cans; his nickname is golfball- I am sure he makes more from me off golfballs than those cans which I am happy to pay for. I gave him a list of about 10 different ball names that I like and he collects them from the creeks running through one of the most expensive CClubs in town. They run off downriver when it rains hard which is where he collects them. Good for him and good for me. I pay him $10 dozen for ProV1,V1X,OneBlack,TPBlack,HXTours,etc. and a little less for others. He brings them in as is so they have to go through my cleaning and then get seperated. I am thinking about buying one of those ball washers like at most courses to make that job a little easier.

  • 2 weeks later...

can someone speak to the quality of the AAA balls at lostgolfballs.com?

I'm looking at their ebay auctions and in the description for AAA it says "there may be scratches, scuffs or blemishes, but roughly half of these balls will be course playable"

I like all the good reviews, but want to make sure I'm not getting greedy at $.58/ball for e6's

thanks!
