ProV1 & TM Red LDP

The red feels softer and spins just fine around the green. The black feels almost as good. Actually, they play about the same for me around the green. They are both long.

 

But none of those reasons are primary in my decision to switch to the TM balls this year. I switching because of price. I think it is ridiculous for Titleist and Nike to charge upwards of $45 for a box of balls. I simply will not pay it. Ever. Never. Although I realize it is unlikely that the majority of players will take my position, nevertheless, I think it is time for us to send these folks a message. Honestly, for the vast majority of players, is there really a $5+ difference between a premium ball made by TM and the balls made by Nike and Titleist? I just tired of being ripped off. Sorry for the rant. :)

Which 08 ball (Red LDP or Black LDP) has the same flight as the regular prov1?

I played the 2007 Red last summer -- even though I don't have a lot of swingspeed (100), I found the ball very long, and it spun very well on partial wedges - a great spinner for me -- yes, it wasn't the softest ball around but it does not cause skanks. lol.

 

I tried the Black once this year and wasn't won over with short game spin -- I'll give it another shot later. Personally, I think the best overall ball for me is the 330-S (the ProV1 gets knocked around a bit in the wind) although I'm always on the hunt for another ball - need to try the Callaway Tour i went it comes around.

I bounce back and forth between the Pro V1x and B330s, both awesome balls. I tried the TM 2008 LDP Red for the first time last week and was very impressed. For me, it is easily as long if not longer than the other two balls and very stable in the wind. However, it doesn't spin as much. I had a really tough time adjusting around the greens. It is sweet off of the putter, but chips just run out. The greens I played on were like concrete so I'm looking forward to trying it on softer greens. All in all, a great ball. I would say similar to the Pro V1x in terms of feel and ball flight.

Like most other I have been tinkering around with a few different golf balls. I really like the overall perfomance of the ProV's....I just don't like the price tag. I played a round last week with the new Red ball and really like the perfomance. It wasn't as soft as the Prov, but softer feeling than the B330. I liked the ball flight, and it seemed a hair longer with the driver, but that may have been the course conditions.

 

I would like to try the new Callaway i ball to see how it plays. For 1-15 bucks less, I think the TM ball is a good choice.

The Blacks flight is closed to the V1 and the Red is closest to the V1x.

I played the 08 Red yesterday and it seems to be very long off of the driver but I was having a bad iron day so could not really gauge the ball. Off of a good 7 iron the ball would hit and roll 3 or 4 feet where the 07 Red would stop or come back a foot. The ball seems to be a midspin ball for me and chips did run a bit compared to a pro-v.
