ESPN's Masters Coverage on Thursday

No Tiger??

If I'm reading this correctly, Tiger will tee off at 7:45 am (pacific time) and the espn coverage will begin at 1 pm (pacific time), meaning Tiger will be finishing up...am I reading this wrong? Is there coverage elsewhere (and I don't mean the Amen Corner coverage on cbssports.com)...thanks, and please tell me I'm wrong

Unlike other tournaments Augusta National controls the tv schedule so it just is what it is.

You're not wrong, but this is usually the case at most tournaments to keep the ratings up without simultaneously succumbing to showing favoritism to one player (i.e. Tiger). I can't provide links for all the tee times over the last few years, but I know that after I started watching golf regularly a few years ago, every time I look at the pairing announcements, I know that Tiger and another big name in the field (let's say Phil for this example) will not play either in the same pairing or tee off around the same time unless required to play together (like at the PGA a few years ago through both players winning majors that year). This year it happened again, as the tee times have Tiger and Phil with opposite tee times (morning v. afternoon Thursday and then switching the next day). This provides a marquee name player in each day's coverage, but also makes sure no one player is being shown more often than the others.

 

That all of course changes on the weekend when the big names put themselves up on the top of the leaderboard.

You know ESPN will show 90-percent of Tiger's shots on replay anyway. It will be as if you watched his entire round in 10 minutes. Plan your lunchtime break at a sports bar and enjoy!

hey nikemike: While you may have a valid argument here just remember the masters tv coverage does have very limited commercial interuptions if that's any consolation. Hope this helps :russian_roulette:

Yeah I wish there was more TV coverage, but with the Amen corner, holes 15-16 live, and the hour long masters extra (basically the TV feed an hour before it starts) there is still a substantial amount of online coverage. Lucky for me got a PS3 hooked up to wireless internet, so watching all the action on the plasma today.

Yeah I just realized the coverage that the Golf Channel has is probably just crap. They have "Live From The Masters" on from Noon to 4pm, but it's probably not any good, but at least I can watch it in HD and I'm not at work today.

Hmmm... I'm seeing the commercials and getting the audio on cbssports.com but no live video.

No video until 4:00 I suppose? I'm on a high speed cable so bandwidth should not be the problem.

Edit: Never mind. Dughter's notebook shows it fine so I can work on mine while watching hers!
