I just hit my X-Stiff AWT Ping i10 blue dots

so, I just hit my new clubs. Ping i10 blue dots with X-stiff AWT shafts.

my verdict on the X-stiff; they played just fine for me. I was coming off playing MP-33s with DG s300 shafts and I must say the Pings are much lighter. I don't know if the lighter weight compensated for the X-stiff shafts but the ball flight was much the same if not slightly higher.

the only problem with my hour at the range? I was hitting into a fairly stiff headwind. I can't get a grasp for yardages, etc. (My 6 iron was going higher than my 9)

anyway, the x-stiffs played fine if anyone was curious.

as a side note, I did waver between outright "shanking the ball" and "spraying the ball" for the first bag until I settled into the feel of the new clubs. I had a few moments of outright panic where I thought "did I just trade in a set of freaking mizunos for the worst set of cavity backs on the market?" but in the end, I feel good.

anyone else have thoughts about the X-stiffs? Would love to hear some other voices. (and yes, I did a search already)

How do you put your list of clubs in these posts?

I am also a convert to the AWT X flex shafts since i had used S300's for the last couple years. I use them in the ping s58's and really like the feel of the shaft since there are def. lighter then the DG's.

i also like the fact that they are flighted and im never going to complain about a shaft that will help me hit my long irons higher. I was going to get teh cushin but opted out. i have to say i cant wait for more courses to open to get these on the course

Interested in thoughts of anyone who has tried the X flex AWT. Used S300 for years but was finding some ballooning. Tried X100 and liked it when hitting reasonably well - got some stupid long shots going up to 7 iron but finding them not as nice as the clubs get longer (in MP 67). Like the i10 and probably going to get these.

So, how would you say the AWT X feels / plays when compared to S300 or X100?

CarloGolfer,

Very curious about your experience with the AWT compared to S300....keep the updates coming.

Also, when you ordered your i10's, did you specify a higher swingweight? I understand stock is D-0, and Mizuno's do play a bit heavier (D-2/3). Could this account for the lighter feeling?

Thanks, Biff

I did not specify a swing weight when I ordered my i10s. They felt so nice in the shop and on the course, the only thing I considered was the proper lie and shaft.

With the mizunos, in retrospect, I did rush the decision. I went to a golf shop which had a range behind it. I said, "what are the best new clubs out there?" they said, "whaddya shoot?" I said, "I'm about a 7-8." they said, "take these two mizunos (the mp33s and some cavity back model) and this titelist (some cavity back model) and see what you think." And I thought, "these freakin mizunos feel GREAT, WRAP 'EM UP! and throw in a bag too!"

but I digress...

Ultimately, I like the i10s much better, because they're really easy to hit. I'm not sure if the i10s would be any more difficult to hit with s300s, but I don't see how they could be easier.

on another post, another guy agreed and said he switched from dgs300s to x-stiif awt and never looked back. by weight, the dgs are 13 grams heavier than the x-stiff awts. I haven't noticed any problem with the correct amount of lag on the downswing. Honestly, towards the end of my session with the i10s, I could really feel my old swing coming back. (my old swing was my very best impression of Tiger's 2000-03 swing, adam scott's current swing. who knows how far off I am)

I think if you make a strong move through the hitting zone, then the x-stiff awt shafts will work just fine. My best times with the Mp33s and the dgs300s were acheived with more of a Colin Montgomerie (sp?) swing, where you build at the top and swing down and through. When I did this well, I felt fine with the Mp33s. But I could not find any consistency, so I went back to my old swing with my new clubs.

hope this helps.

Interesting stuff. Is there anyone else out there that can give some views as to their experience with differences in feel / ball flight between the X and the S in AWT and comparisons to DGS300 / X100 with the AWT shafts.

CarloGolfer (and anyone else): I used MP33 irons for a number of years (currently playing around with some MP 67 irons) - do you find the additional offset in the i10 irons to be a problem?

Threads like this get me more cofused everyday. I was fitted into a regular flex shaft about a 8 months ago but now feel ready to make the step feeling sometimes thee shaft whips to much around for me. I was going to either a rifle 5.5 or x300 but now im feeling either going to a awt stiff or or rifle.

I just played my first full round with my new i10 x-stiff awts. They were perfect. about a 1/2 club longer than my mp33s and smooth as silk.

The long irons were silly easy to hit. It was a pleasure to stripe a 3 iron 215 off the fairway, high and straight.

I highly recommend the x-stiffs to anyone considering them. two thumbs way up.

if anyone has any questions about x-stiff awt, feel free to ask.

I have S59 Green Dot with DGS300. Getting ready to pull the trigger on I-10 Green Dot. Struggling with the shaft to choose. I am leaning toward AWT Stiff - but after your post - I may think X-Stiff in the AWT. I carry my 6 iron about 175 or so. Does that sound like X-stiff is a good choice for me - coming from the DGS300?

Thanks!

I love my set. I've only played a round and a half with them because my wife and I just had a baby, so I can only comment with a limited amount of playing time as my backup.

I will say the x-stiffs feel great. I carry my six iron about the same distance (180) +/- five yards depending on the type of shot/conditions/etc.

check the specs on the stiff compared to x-stiff. the x-stiff is 1.5 degrees of torque compared with 1.6 degrees for the stiff. the x-stiffs are slightly heavier than the stiffs but still much lighter than the dgs300 (about 13 grams if I remember correctly).

What difference would that 0.1 degrees of torque and the extra weight make between the Stiff and X-Stiff?

I recently got a new set of Raptures with AWT Stiff shafts, previously I've used ZZ65s or CS Lite Stiff (With Cushin Inserts) and to be honest I'm not feeling the love for these shafts. I'm really struggling to hit the ball out of the middle of the face with these shafts. Was wondering if I should have gone to X Flex in the AWT. Certainly when I compare an AWT to a CS Lite in my hands it seems to flex and bow a lot more, so to me seems to be a softer shaft.

I can't say. But I have noticed people commenting the awt shafts play softer compared to other shafts of similar stiffness. So perhaps the x-stiffs play stiff and the stiffs play regular.

I recommend demoing the x-stiffs. They feel very good to me. no loss of distance or feel.
