i mix adapter?

so now that the imix has just come out I am wondering if an adapter is available. i have some shafts that are either not available for the driver or i do not want to spend outrageous money to get the i mix one. so is there an adapter where i can glue my shaft into the adapter and then use it in an imix? anyone know of one in the future? thanks

I think you would have a better chance at becoming Pope than getting an IMIX adapter unless you drill out a shaft from one. I doubt Callaway (or any other manufacturer) let those get loose in public.

 

 

Golfsmith does have a similar setup to the IMIX, and it looks like it might work, it just looks a bit bulky for my taste.

short of breaking into the callaway factory and grabbing a handful, or drilling out a shaft that would cost alot and probably ruin the adapter I don't think you could get one

You will most likely have to wait for someone to come out with a 3rd party adapter.

I beleive you have to ruin a shaft. I have Joe K building me an i-mix ion plated Diamana, playing longer than standard by a half inch. Not cheap, but totally doable.

 

I would contact him if you are serious and have a shaft you want to put in play.

Essentially you're referring to a clone adapter that allows you to epoxy your own shaft into the shaft side adapter, but works with the iMix heads.

 

The chances are slim because it's proprietary. I don't know if patents 'run out' or after a certain amount of time others are allowed to copy the model, but if that happens you'll see clone adapters. Until then, highly unlikely.

 

Besides, the Club Conex folks have all the adapters you need to mate virtually any shaft to any head.

the i-mix is going to have to be out for at least 10 years(and possibly longer) before you'll see any 3rd party i-mix adapters.

 

I'm sure the system is patented and that theres NO way Cally is going to sell just the adapter until they can recoup some of their R&D costs

The Chinese do not honor our patents, so getting an adapter manufactured would not be impossible.

 

The problem is that Callaway is very aggressive pursuing patent infringement, so they would certainly go after any company in the US who attempted to bring a compatible adapter to market if they did not pay royalties - that is of course assuming that Callaway has patented the iMix adapter...

Completely off subject but, how great for travel would be a full set of imix clubs . You could break them down and carry all the heads in one case and the shafts in a larger version of a pool cue case . It would be great and you could fold up a small sunday bag.

I have put a set of irons together for just this purpose - and played with them on Saturday.

 

I used the Apollo Hump shaft - very stable butt trim only shafts - and a set of Pure Fit heads. They worked beautifully together.

 

I'll be adding hybrids to the set this week. I already have a 3W and driver ready to go.

 

Putter is next as well.

 

Shafts will travel in a shipping tube, heads in a small carrying case. I'm working on a "folding bag" that will hang off the back of a golf cart and fold/roll along it's long axis so it can also slip into a shipping tube.

 

Should be a fun project.

It won't take that long. There were Callaway Sleeves shortly after they were used in VFT and Steelhead III through FT-5.

 

The Ping TiSi adapters came out within a year.

 

Someone will reverse engineer an adapter soon enough.

my thing is that i have two expensive shafts, one that callaway doesnt offer but they are .335. i know that the other shafts are .350. i dont want to spend 150 on a shaft and pull it to put in another shaft

I've spoken to the owners of two companies whom I felt would be most likely to make an after-market adapter for the Callaway iMix and neither is going to touch them.

 

It's one thing to make a replacement ferrule, quite another to violate their patent.

 

I would not hold your breath for an after-market adapter that's compatible.

 

It could certainly happen, but Callaway WILL sue - you can count on that. They make way too much money selling shafts with these adapters attached to let it go quietly.

They are going to have to make it so that it makes a standalone system that can be used without callaway equipment. Bolt makers can't make a bolt size off limits, neither can callaway with their screw size. It can be made, but the ferrule will look slightly different, use a different wrench, and have a useless clubhead application piece.

TMac, I was in your boat and DID exactly what you are wanting........you CAN do it and it is easier than you can imagine, plus I already was the guinea-pig :wacko:

Here is my post on "how to" remove a i-mix adapter. My son plays a shaft that is not offered in i-mix (Matrix Ozik in "R" flex), so I bought a cheap i-mix shaft off of ebay, (Fuji E150 .350) pulled the tip and installed it on a Matrix Ozik Xcon5R .335 shaft that I had. It saved me some $ since I bought the Ozik shaft at a pretty good price also. Read my instructions carefully, I FIGURED OUT YOU DONT HAVE TO HOT ROD THE TIP....you can apply heat to the aluminum swedge tip to pull the adapter with a puller and the tool.
