Ping G10 with Aldila DVS

I'm considering to order a 9D G10 with Aldila DVS shaft.

 

Any feedback on this combo?

Is DVS shaft a good choice for the G10?

 

My current driver is a 9D Rapture with VS Proto.

Sorry to hijack but what's wrong with the Rapture with vs proto? I just ordered one from Ping WRX 9.5* vs proto stuff 45"? The G10 is good and all but I always considered the Rapture a little more forgiving/better. I was going for a G10 ProLaunch Red until I hit the Rapture so well (and there's the price break on the Rapture now...).

My driver swing speed is about 100 and I am looking for a little higher ball flight, but worried the higher launch shaft with a 10.5 will launch too high??

Rapture with VS proto is a good combo, nice feel, good trajectory and very very long (big roll), but I can't hit mine with consistence.

 

A friend has same loft, shaft and flex Rapture and his driver plays completely different: much more consistent but about 15 yards shorter!?!?

 

I had it for one year and last week I tried for the first time a G10, and i loved it.

 

So I'm considering to get one with a nice hot shaft.

I had a G10 in the stock TFC stiff shaft. Hit it too high with no rollout. I now have gone with a Rapture with Aldila NVS and my ball flight has come down and the Rapture just feels better to me.

If you have experience and like the Aldila shaft than you probably could make it work in the G10 head.

I have a G10 with the NVS shaft. It was my understanding when I ordered it that their stocker is made by NVS and is the same shaft. That caused me to order the G10 and referring to the NVS shaft when all I really meant was their stock. OK, that said, I like the performance of the NVS -- good, high launch w/o balooning. Spin rate for me is >3,000. I like it. Still wondering what difference I would have with stock TFC 129D.

Just ordered a G10 driver with a DVS shaft from the Ping WRX Department. It's a $100 upcharge . . . or $90, don't remember which. They are sending me a digitally measured 10 degree head . . . . so, they are available if you're willing to custom order.

Great combo - ordered a G10 DVS 60s through PingWrx with specs of 45.75, D3+, 10.5 (digitally lofted, came in a 9 deg head). Went lower loft/higher launch hoping for a flatter flight and more run. Previously played a 10.5 Burner TP (GD65s) and a 10.5 G5 (Accra SC 65 stiff), both of which hit the ball too high despite a modest 95 mph swing (very positive angle of attack). Prefer low torque/anti-left/active tip shafts but took a gamble with the DVS not knowing how dispersion would be. No worries - the DVS is incredibly smooth with tight dispersion. Mid launch, butt stiff which gives it a stout feel, and a noticeable kick at impact. Have heard this is a slightly higher launch/spin version of the Proto, but have not seen much of a difference on spin. Much smoother though and the kick does seem to create higher ball speeds. Without question the longest combo I've hit.

What flex did you order?

I've read somewhere (probably it was an Adams XTD fairways review ) that DVS plays a little weaker flex and that the regular is quite whippy.

Is this true?

 

As for digital lofting, what's the reason why they use a 9D head to get 10.5D?

JC, it was a stiff shaft. Not sure if the DVS used in an Adams FW is the same as the after-market version in terms of torque and flex. Certainly no expert, but it does not surprise me that the Adams version would play soft at 65 grams - thought all fairway wood shafts were supposed to be at least 75 grams to provide the proper weighting relative to the driver?

 

The CPM frequency on the aftermarket version of the DVS 60s is a fairly high 267. So one would think this shaft should be anything but whippy.

 

Reminds of the time I bought a stock G2, NV 65 stiff. Hooked this combo off the planet. Thought I was going crazy only to find out it was flexed at a CPM that was more like a soft regular. After this experience, I've had a bias toward aftermarket versions over the stock version tailored for the masses. Just my opinion, but perhaps you can ask a qualified clubfitter!

I have the DVS X in my Exotics 3 wood and I just got the CPM checked today and it was 279, so def not whippy. I really like the shaft. I was worried that it might feel whippy but it certainly doesn't, instead you can feel a kick at impact. I would recommend it.

I have had evey major oem driver, including several Raptures. I couldn't find the right combo :wacko: , until I went to an outdoor Ping fitting day. The DVS is smooth (BB 63) yet powerful (kicks hard at impact). The G10 is a low to mid spin head and is a good combo with the DVS. I ordered mine from Ping WRX at 45" with D3 swingweight. The upcharge was $100 but who else is going to digital loft a head for you- no one but Ping. I got a G10 14 3 wood with a DVS 70 stiff and it is a also cannon. :shok: :shok:

 

I am a huge Ping homer and I know there are people who prefer the Rapture over the G10. However, after playing both the G10 is a better all around driver for $100 less. Good luck.

I have at Ping WRX friend who has allocated me a 7.5 Lefty Tour Rapture that I ordered with a digital loft of 8.5 to 8.7. After reading about you on the DVS 60, I went along and ordered this combo.

 

I have had very good results with the VS Proto\Rapture 9.0 but still launch this combo too high for me.......looking to get the launch around 12.5 with the 7.5\DVS combo.

Was the upcharge $100 for the DVS 70 in the fairway as well? I'm thinking of doing a DVS in a G10 3 wood and a DVS hybrid in a G10 hybrid.

Picked up a 9* G10 w/DVS 60-S and that put my Rapture with the Grafalloy Comp NT in the closet. This driver combo produces a boring ball flight and the release is very smooth...also hit a Macgregor MT460 with the same shaft and while it felt OK...you can feel that the G10 has the hot face! Shaft does play stiff but should work for swings in the very high 90's - 105 range...great combo...hit it if you can find it!

I have the Ping G10 in 10.5° Loft with a DVS 60X shaft. Its okay. Compared to my Titleist 907D1 with VS Proto 65X it seems to hit the ball a heck of a lot higher. I don't think it delivers the same penertrating flight at my Titleist, I probably would have been better getting a 9° option. I'll be honest and say the UK Ping WRX Department probably didn't measure the face angle on the head for me so I could have anything really under the 10.5° tag.

 

I find if anything the shafts probably not really for me being really light. I need probably a heavier shaft and that would allow me to get a better feel and control for it. I must admit it tends to spray about a bit more for me then the Titleist or my 9° Rapture with VS Proto shaft.

Has anyone tried the Proto 60 reg. flex in the G10. I have the NVS reg. 65 in there now and it's straight but a bit short for me. I also pull it left more frequently. I tried the Cobra speed pro d with a yellow vs proto reg. and I hit it well. I dont want to pay $400 for a whole new driver though. I have a 98 mph ss and though the driver says your supposed to have a 110 ss it works well for me.
