Brother in law in coma, father-in-law needs a break...

Recommended Posts

...I need your help!
Thank you to everyone who reads this and especially to everyone who reads this and says a prayer (or 1,000).

My brother in law was in a tragic hit-and-run auto accident in Dallas on May 13. He suffered severe head injuries and internal injuries and is currently at Parkland Memorial Hospital in a coma. My wife and in-laws rushed to Dallas (we live in Jackson, MS) the night of the accident and my in-laws have been there ever since. My father-in-law is at the hospital every day from 7:30/8:00am until they kick him out. As you can see from his daily journal here: Reed Thompson, it's a miracle that God saved his life.

By way of background, Reed went through "golf school" at SDGA in Orlando, FL and he's had stints as an assistant pros in the Tampa Bay are Dallas areas. He was most recently working at the PGA Superstore in north Dallas (near Richardson) before the accident. He was recently married and was trying for his first kid.

My father-in-law is a golf nut and he's pretty good too, w/ a ~+1 handicap. He's used to playing golf 5-days a week during the summer, but has volunteered his entire life here in Jackson to live in a garage apartment off Mockingbird Lane in Dallas and support and rehabilitate his 27 year old son daily.

Here is my request, I would like to get him out on a golf course that is near where he is staying for Father's Day. He's staying in a guest house located on Dallas CC and I know that may be a tall order, but if anyone can help me get him out on a nice golf course that is not too far from Parkland Mem. Hospital, I will pay the greens fees. FYI - I'm not a rich man, so any discount you guys can snag would be greatly appreciated.

Guys, I'm a long time member. I've been around these forums since the early days of Golf Opinions (~10yrs ago) and know how much influence and character exists on this board. Please help!

For reference: my father-in-laws name is Terry Thompson and he is the executive director of Pinelake Christian School in Brandon, MS.

Please send PM or e-mail to either of the following addresses if you can help:

Hopefully, some of you saw my post last week about my brother-in-law's tragic accident. At that time, I was asking for help getting my father-in-law a little break from his daily grind at the hospital. Now, I come to you with a different request. Many of you could not help with the father-in-law issue, but offered to donate money. In fact, many of you wanted to send money directly to meet for Reed. As you can imagine, I would not feel comfortable with that responsibility. However, there is a trust account set up for Reed at the following bank, with the following contact information:

Chase Bank

Attention Jennifer M. Hildman

Murphy Branch

206 W. FM 544

Murphy, TX 75094

Email: [email protected]

Toll free: 877-226-5663

As you can see, I've given you all the information. This isn't a scam. Reed was just like us before this accident. He was an avid golfer, a club ho, had a 122mph swing speed, was a husband, son, brother, etc.... It is now all gone. He now lays in a hospital bed 24/7, and his brain injury has taken away his ability to use his entire left side of his body (hopefully temporarily) and he is still comatose.

For those of you who truly care, you can visit Reed Thompson's Caring Bridge Page. For those of you that pray, pray for him. He needs it to carry him through this marathon recovery.

Thanks,

Dustin
