John Madden used to make games I'd otherwise not tune into watchable...his shtick got old after a while (don't they all?), but for a good decade plus he made football more entertaining.

 

As for current golf announcers, I can't stand either Strange or Wadkins...mainly because they seem like complete tools (again, just my reaction to watching them as announcers and players...I could be way off base having never met either one). Peter Jacobsen also really annoys me for some reason.

 

I like Faldo and Zinger, and Maltbie seems like a good guy.

 

Kostis is a good substitute for Ambien.

Not a Dan Hicks fan. NBC/GC also has Terry Gannon, who imo is much better. Gannon/Faldo on GC is great. But I think part of why Hicks is still around is he pairs well with Miller. Miller can be kinda *****ly and Hicks sort of vanilla style complements that. So while I do like Gannon better because hes more dynamic, that works well with a more gregarious personality like Faldo's. I don't hate Johnny Miller but its hard to have an interesting sidekick when Johnny is on board, Miller is just too edgy. Thus Dan Hicks.

Hicks never bothered me. The one guy I want to leap through the TV and choke is Chamblee. It's OK to be a smug jackass and act like an authority if you've actually won something (like Johnny Miller), but Brandel is a career journeyman who thinks he won 6 majors.

As for Lanny and Curtis, those guys are in a different category where they actually have knowledge, and the moral authority to critique, but neither can actually make a coherent sentence in proper English which I still think is an important part of the job.
