What is the best driver out there ? ? The best club you have hit and what loft and shaft on it?!

Lookin for some ideas for a new tinker toy ! ! ! ! !

For me that would be my Stulz 10.5* driver with a Stulz stiff shaft. My drives are on average between 260-280 yds and if I totally unload on it I can get 300 yds. Its the best, most forgiving, longest driver I've ever had. I signed up as a demo person this last summer and got the driver with shaft for $ 120.00!

IMO, its not the head, its the shaft. For driver heads, I perfer SMT.

I would have to say right now the best club I am hitting is a 7.5 El Diablo on a XXX HOF LT (285 cpm) at 49". To bad I found this combination after the districts were over. Have a hard time hitting OEM stuff because it just doesn't last very long and after about the third or fourth time sending their stuff back they stop warranting their product even if you leave the stock shaft in the club. The Shultz driver I tried was a joke lasted exactly 5 hits before it was cracked open like a kid opening gifts on christmas morning.

Sorry to hear of your misfortune with Stulz. My experience has been just the opposite, but then again I have a whimpy 100-103 mph ss. Which is okay since I'm 60 and a swinger.

For me, the GEEK FS3 and GEEK DCT all are shafted with the HOF ULTRA and Standard trajectory versions. These are crazy long low spinning heads. Too bad I've been injured for most of the year, but when I felt ok to hit, they were bombs! That is why I'm gonna try the last chance qualifier in Las Vegas next month.

Being that he is in the LD forum asking this question, I would venture to say an LD setup for the sake of knowledge and research.

That is just my guess and could easily being wrong.

I would say that it's not the most forgiving club I've ever hit, as far as mishits, but if I catch one with a SMT deep bore 455 it goes a long way.

I like my Geek DCT as well. It's more forgiving and I get a lot more roll with it.

I've never hit Alpha or Krank, and the FS3 isn't in LH yet.

Josh,

I'll check that for you, if Steve has one, what loft?

In my book they're all the same...it's all in the shaft! I had a 905r by titleist a few years ago and i could

hit the ball a long frickin way, that summer i had 330+ yard drive 1 or 2 times a round...and then i broke the shaft

i had it repaired by the company and im pretty sure that they changed it with a different one ( different torque )

It never was the same and i had to chage it!

but if you ask my dad ( he is the real specialst ) he'd say EXOTIC :D

but i drive a superquad

unfortunately im not the ho some of you guys are, but, i think the short time i had a 905r left an everlasting impression on me, it was an 8.5* 905r with a stock stiff speeder, that thing was incredible, hopefully i'll be able to say the same about my new mac mt 460, but i've only had a few range sessions with it, hopefully i'll have the same feelings for this new mac after i get to take it to the course

I'm not much of a club hopper-- if I find something that works, I stick with it for a LONG time (as my WITB indicates). I played a 9.5* Titleist 975J VS (YS-6) from the end of middle school up until the beginning of last season (almost 8 years!). A friend of my dad's is a Golfsmith club fitter, and he knocked up a Snake Eyes Viper Tour Black for me to try out, and man, I love that thing. I get ribbed for it all the time, but hey-- it's long and straight! If some club 'elitists' could see past $500 MSRP drivers, they'd find the gold at the end of the rainbow with this bad boy.

Its been almost a year since I got my Stultz driver. In the last month the epoxy in the hosel is loosening and the head has started to come off. B/C of this I've been talking with other ppl who also got the Stultz driver deal last summer. I've come to find that cracked heads and flatten faces are pretty commen. I guess I just got lucky. I've re epoxied mine, but am starting to look for another head.

The longest driver I've ever hit is an old 975J.VS H.Cr model. With 10.5 degrees of loft and a 45" Penley Stealth shaft in it, it still clonks it consistently longer than any other driver I've played and outstrips my current gamer. Whether the marginally hotter (and now non-conforming) face has any say in things is debatable, but I can hit flat draws with it that carry as far as my current driver and then run like a greyhound with its arse on fire once they hit the deck.

Given the fact that if your driver is properly fitted to your swing it's very rare to see any meaningful improvement in distance, the only driver I can honestly say I've hit that had the wow factor and went a lot further than anything else was many moons ago and was a Bridgestone J's driver. It had some fancy graphite shaft (a Harmotech?) and it went 20-25 yards further, consistently, than the Taylor Made Burner I was hitting at the time.

If I was going to tinker with anything, I'd pick up a cheap, older (c.2000) Taylor Made or Titleist and play with that. If nothing else, it'll cost peanuts and will be a good testbed if you're looking to try out some different shafts. Provided you install them as a standard bore only if you go with a Titleist head.
