Most forgiving "toe hang" putters?

I've been playing a Newport putter and practice the Utley style Gate Stroke but lately feel I need a little extra forgiveness. Are there any High MOI putters with toe hang? Do the mallet putters scotty makes have more forgiveness than the newport style? The Red X has some toe hang so if it's more forgiving then maybe that's the way to go!

The Red X line is good; they have the same toe hang as the Newports and will offer higher MOI.

 

The Newport Detour might be just what the doctor ordered. It's kind of a blade/mallet hybrid--it has the Newport shape, which I assume you like because that's what you're using now. And it has a weight in the back of the Detour "flange" that moves the MOI of the putter farther back and gives it much more forgiveness than a typical Newport.

 

You might also want to try a Squareback or Fastback when they come out . . . they'll have a little bit more MOI and forgiveness, but they are reportedly more face-balanced.

 

As far as new Camerons go, those pretty much cover the waterfront.

Not a lot of forgiveness from the Red X -- not much heel toe perimeter weighting.

 

If you need more forgiveness than an Anser Style putter gives with the Utley stroke, then I'd keep on simplifying the stroke and quiet the hands more. Another putter is just a band-aid. Work on the stroke.

 

Personally, Utley has a few too many moving parts for me -- I tried it for over a year. But went to another syle with tremendous success.

The Red X does not have a higher MOI than an Anser putter. Most people think a mallet has a higher MOI than your typical Anser but they are wrong.

HUGE recommendation on any of the putters in the JAS line. Even the JAS Tess (8802 style) is plenny forgiving, at least enough for me to have some success with, with the Anser being even more so. The combination of the lightweight titanium body with some serious tungsten weights on heel and toe provide for a higher MOI than most mallets of similar weight. Ping putters with the Wrx weighting will also have a higher MOI than standard, though not as high as similar putters in the JAS line.

 

Also, remember that a simple increase in weight will also increase the MOI, so heavier putters will be less prone towards twisting on off-centered putts.

If you try to use the Utley gate putting stroke, and you own a standard Newport, then maybe you should try and sell this and get the Newport Studio Select 1.5, which has a flare neck/Santa Fe style neck, which for many works much better with a putting stroke, that goes from slightly closed to square to slightly closed.

 

I use a Bettinardi PROTO DASS putter with this neck and also will buy the Studio Select Newport 1.5 with the same neck - because this promotes the opening and closing gate effect for a player needing more toe flow in the putting stroke.
