Golf ball poll

Recommended Posts

I've been playing for about 2 yrs now and have spent hundreds (more I'm sure) on balls since someone showed me how much they actually matter.

I've been through a dozen or more of the following the last 2 yrs.

All the cheap Top Flight and Wilson stones

Callaway HX Hot-HX tour-HX Hot Bite-Tour iX

Srixon AD333

Maxfli Black Max

Noodle+

Nike One Platinum/Black-PD Soft

Titleist NXT Tour ProV1 and 1x

Wilson 50/50-Zip

Bridgestone E5+ E6/6+ B330 B330S B330RX

Precept 180 IQ

Driver SS 95-100 mph and carries between 235-255 yds

6 Iron carries between 160-170 yds

54* Titleist SM right on 100 yds with a full swing

I get these #'s consistently with 4 balls. Titleist ProV1x Callaway Tour iX Wilson Zip and Bridgestone B330 RX

I'm all about feel, and stopping it on the green.

This year has been a toss up between ProV1x and the Tour iX. I played both all Spring and Summer. The ProV1x felt a little harder than the iX when the temp was below 70, but both played great.

I liked the Zip a lot as well. It feels almost as soft as the iX and stops just as well too.

This fall I got my hands on the new Bridgestone B330RX and loved the feel instantly. It hasn't been above 50 degrees since I've started playing it and it feels so nice.

Its stops on the green like I want it too and feels softer than the ProV1x the Tour iX and the Zip.

It holds up well too. I've played a whole round with one ball a couple of times now.

The 330RX seems just a bit longer than the others.

Yesterday I played a whole round with one 330RX. I drove the green on a short par 4 (270) for the 1st time and also broke 80 for the 1st time as well.

78 WOOOOO HOOOOOO !!!!!

The ball is on my shelf next to the ProV1x I played a whole round with at Chambers Bay this August :yahoo:

The 330RX is my gamer right now. I'll also play the Zip when its really wet (I live in the Seattle area) they are cheaper to lose.

I'll match the 330RX up against the ProV1x when it gets hot again this summer and the greens firm up.

Favs are Nike One Black, Callaway iX and Pro V1x.

They have great distance, great feel and spin. They'll come back on me, but not too much as to come back off the green.

Driver swing speed 95ish... don't hate me because I'm old

I'm playing the new Dixon Earth golf ball. Great feel, long, drop and stop. Feel is between Pro V1 and Pro V1x.

Oh, and it's "green." They give you a buck back in credit for every one that you send back for recycle.

Just named the "official ball of the 2009 Tarheel Tour" in the Carolinas.

Recently switched to Callaway Tour i from Pro V1. My driver MPH is 104 to 107. I made the switch mainly because of the durability of the tour i. It hold up much better with the wedges compared to the Pro V1. I just hate when you hit a full shot with anything shorter than a 9 iron and the cover gets ripped up. Besides that I think the Tour i plays very similar to the PRO V1 that I have used since it came out. Just my 2 cents.

Wow I went and played the Taylormade TP Black, and wow by far the longest ball for me, it went a good 5-10 yards further than the PRov1x & Tour IX of fthe tee. It seemed to spin the same as the TourIX on irons. The tp black will be getting another round test to confirm my findings. I was very surprised.. Anybody else find this to be true as well. My swing speed is 125 mph

Prefer the NOP, Callaway Tour i, and e5+. They all feel great, are well-behaved greenside, and give consistent distances off irons.

IMO, the 2008 Bridgestone 330 series is a big disappointment, especially when compared to the excellent 2007 B330s.

wats wrong with the 2008 b330s? i usually play 2007 330s or e5.... got half a dozen in 2 ball sleeves of the 08 330 for cheap.... havent tried them yet

  • 2 weeks later...

Played the Pro-V1X since inception till last march when i tried the new TM TPred.....loved how it reacted in the wind, better distance, good feel. I've played it all year and have no complaints. I do like the B330-S although they are still a little too clicky off the irons and putter. Very durable though, even with new wedge groove. Played 1 ball entire round in Nov, something I haven't been able to do with anything else.

For my 90 MPH swing speed, the Noodle Plus (loooong and soft) or the Treosoft. As a matter of fact, I think the Bridgestone Treosoft is a better all-around performer than Bridgestone's E-series. But for price and performance for middle swing speeds, you can't go wrong with either. Noodle is a little cheaper. And at 90 MPH, you will hit it further than a Pro VI.

SS is 95-100.

I have a bunch of Precept U-Tri Tour that I've stocked up on that I really like.

Going to give B330S and B330RX a try next. Was going to use the 330S for sure, but it says optimized for 103 - 112 ss, so figure I need to compare it with the RX. In any case, will almost for sure stay with Bridgestone. Really like their golf balls.

Now, question I keep having as I read this thread is this: All the variying swing speeds are interesting, but are people using the right balls for the swing speeds they say they have? Or at the end of the day, does it only matter that you like the ball?

B330. In spite of the fact that my 100 mph SS is supposed to be low for it, I drive it as far as anything else, and farther than some, but where I really make the choice is on approach shots and chips. I get better and more consistent spin on short pitches and chips than I do with the Prov1, and good distance control on my iron approaches. That is what is most important to me. It feels as good as anything else on off my putter, not quite as soft as the Pro V1, but the other advantages outweigh that small feel difference.

Best Ball?

None!

I think they've gone downhill since the Callaway HX Blue, or Rule 35 Blue, or the majestic Maxfli HT.

I can't stand these modern balls which are basically distance balls masquerading as players balls.

Just because they've got an ultra thin soft cover on them, doesn't mean they feel nice. I don't want to be denied a good ball just because of what the pros demand, i.e totally dead-feeling performance balls.

Somebody please show me the modern version of a really lively and soft feeling, high spinning, players ball!

Somebody please tell me what the most buttery soft feeling, dreamboat of a ball to chip and putt with is these days. i'm talking plenty of check on chips, and sweet, properly soft feel.. This is somebody who would still use Tour Balatas, Tour Prestige, Maxfli HT.. (Lovely ball) if he could find/they still made/they weren't so outdated in terms of everyone knocking it 50 yards past you!

So, what is the ultimate soft, players ball around right now..??????

Guys, please, can't anybody tell me what the softest, most high spinning ball is these days?

2009 Nike ONE TOUR - Even spinnier (Is that a word?) than the previous couple years Platinums and still somehow has less driver spin than most tour caliber balls.

I honestly think that anyone that give this ball an honest shot will not give it up. I'm a Nike guy but have been playing Pro-v's, i's, ix's, b330's, TM's etc. because i could never find a ball that spun a lot off of everything eccept the driver and woods... Enter the ONE TOUR. Huge, penitrating drives, and every shot in the bag around the greens. I was seriously danceing the sucker around pins like never before. We have some of the firmest, fastest, greens in the California Central Valley, and when you can hit a 30yd pitch and have it hop and spin back a couple feet, you know you have a special ball. Watch out for this one people WILL be talking!

SS 110 mph,

my ball last year -TM Red, rips through the wind and controllable wedge spin- one hop stop.

and winter days Precept U Tri Tour - the best "cheap" ball by far ( still sold at Walmart !).

I really like the Srixon Zur C, it has a more durable cover than other premium balls, and its a spinner. The wind makes this ball go crazy.

I am looking forward to trying the Srixon Z Star. I will be buying a box asap.

I bought 2 boxes of the Practice Prov1x's, and have been trying to play with them, but this ball isn't right for me when it's cold. Tried the Tour ix- too harsh around the greens but it's the longest ball out there !

I learned that a softer ball ie. -TM Red is better for me than TM Black , Prov1x. etc...

My iron SS is aprox 88-90. I played ProV1X but recently switched to Callaway "ix"... which turns out to be a bit longer for me. I choose both of these balls because others are soft providing no feel at impact, yet they spin into and around the greens with less run out providing control; but not so much spin off driver face.

Swing Speed:

- 6 iron 95mph

- Driver 110mph

Last year played TP Red, nice spin round the greens but cover lacking in durability. :black eye:

Currently playing Tour ix - 3 boxes to go

Love the launch, great in the wind, does not spin excessively on full wedge shots. Great flight with the driver and irons. :good:

Once the ix tours are done, then back to the Prov1x

Swing speed goes from 98-102. Last year I used the Calli Tour i & ix depending on conditions, first Calli ball I've ever liked. I just picked up two boxes of Z Stars to try, I've enjoyed the Z URS in the past.

Swing Speed: 110-115mph, Carry: 270+ yds, Roll: non, spins like a 5 wood.

Ball in use: b330s b/c of duribility and feel around the greens (closest to feel to prov1 with durability).

Others I like:

-tm tp red (durablilty and spin)

-Prov1*(Best feeling ball out there - Durability issues is why I don't use)

Ball I tested that I don't like:

-Cally i and ix: feels like a topflite xl, but performs well though
