ReMax World Long Drive on ESPN

Did anyone else notice Jamie Sadlowski spit on the face of his driver?
I was just wondering if anyone else noticed this. I tivo'd this the other day and watched it this morning and in the semifinals, Sadlowski was needing to get one in the grid and he clearly spit on his fingertips, wiped that on face of his driver and then cleaned his hand on his pants. I am wrong or are they allowed to do this type of stuff in long drive events?

anyone notice the abundance of Cobra drivers?

Those, together with the House of Forged "WhupNShaft", whatever in the world that is.

I have to say, though, that it was a little sad to see the end of Zuback's reign. He had the unorthodox swing and the muscle to sort of fit the "freak of nature" stereotype of the long driving champ.

Sadlowski looks like a fairly ordinary player...who can carry a ball 390 into a slight breeze.

The House of Forged WNS is one of, if not THE most popular golf shaft on the LD tour. They not only make it for Ld'ers, but also for regular players. I've built quite a few drivers for people on here and other forums with this shaft. Very dependable shaft, great feel and kicks like a mule without feeling boardy.

Jason Zuback's reign in LD is not over. It's tough to count a guy out when he gave it his all with a hernia.

Jaime Sadlowski is, at this time, the best in the world. He has great talent, young and represents LD well. For those who did not follow the entire event, Jaime 6th balled in 3 rounds to advance(1st 5 OB) and went OB in the first round.

My GEEK LD teammate, Joe Shuba did quite well. He was the #1 seed in the semifinals(avg 418 yards) but came down with a stomach virus in the mid afternoon of the semifinals, otherwise we would be talking about Joe not Jaime.

It was a great event on a new venue and will only get better once the grid completely fills in.

idrive400yards, out of curiosity, what is the rule on putting spit on the driver face at long drive competitions? Has anyone ever been disqualifed for anything at a Re/Max long drive competition before? No disrespect to the clear winner, Jaime Sadloski. I think he is fantastic, and did not mean to take any advantage. Not that he needs to either. He has a kick a** swing!

You said it like Joe Shuba would have definitely won the championship if he had not gotten sick and I was saying maybe he would have.

Some people spit on their heads co clean off the ball and tee marks. It sounds kind of sick, but I lick mine, then wipe it with a towel, pants leg, shirt, whatever's available, and if I'm hitting with someone I know personally, I'll wipe it on his shirt so that I don't get dirty....

Joe was the number one seed, avg 418 yards thruout the rounds he was in, was clearly hard to beat, so yes I think, IMO, he would have won. But we all know in longdrive, all it takes is one bad set, and your done.

It's on right now on ESPN Classic. Has anyone noticed all the Alpha drivers? What is the deal with all these guys using mid-grade driver heads? I just don't get it...........

They are showing LD Remax World Championships from 2004 to 2008, 2008 will be on at 2:30 PM CT(I think).

I would not call Alpha an inferior head, they make very good component heads along with Geek and few higher end component heads. They are hot faced with lower spinning heads as compared to OEM standard offerings. The Cobra heads that did very well in this year's LD Worlds, are not available to retail public in those low lofts.

There are 4 major componant heads in LD, GEEK, KRANK, ALPHA, then there is SMT, BANG. I would not consider ANY of these mid-grade(except for maybe Bang). The reason for this is the availability of low lofts(4-5-6*) that no other major manufacturer offers except for Cobra(hard to come by) Adams(just got into the LD bizz) and very very little from Taylormade(tour van bent heads)

All of the componant companies can be put up against ANY major OEM and pretty much out perform them. We as longdriver look for certain things from a driver and one of the major things is spin rate off the face. We are looking for spin in the 1800-2200 rpm range. Most major OEM make heads that impart more spin to help the every day golfer get the ball airborn. We don't need that type of help.

Another is warranty, lifetime for componants, 1yr from OEM's.

How much longer does the ball fly in Mesquite, Nevada, where the Re/Max long drive championship is held? If I recall correctly, on Big Break Mesquite, some of those little dudes were bombing 3 irons about 280 in one skills competition (with incredible rolls). Is it the mountain high altitude and thin air? I'm guessing with irons, you could hit two or three clubs less for a given distance? Any body played in Mesquite? Jamie S hit it almost 440 there!

The air is much thinner there. But when the event finals are held in the nighttime, and the air density changes, it becomes much harder to post those type of numbers. Those guys who hit it a long way with their 3 irons on BB, couldn't even come close to those yardages if they hit it at night.

Sounds like that Sadlowski fellow is from MN. :drinks:

Actually from Alberta, Canada.

Isn't it pretty interesting that their swingspeed almost rivals to several internet golfer's claims? Boever who's a good friend of mine's, swings at around 130 mph but still can drive the ball 330-360 consistently. A great guy too.
