Upgrading Skycaddie SG2 to SG5

I'm upgrading my Skycaddie SG2 to the SG5 and had a couple of questions for those that have been through this already. BTW my membership expired 12/26/08 and it's giving me until 1/17/09 until its deactivated.

Should I register my SG5 before or after I deactivate my SG2?

Will the courses I recorded myself on the SG2 be able to be transferred over to the SG5?

Did you run into any problems switching over to your new Skycaddie?

Self recorded courses are not transferable, unless you have published them on their website.

If you transfer membership by phone, you can roll-over you subscription from one to the other. HOWEVER, do this before a 48hr period when you are not planning on needing them. There's lag time in their computer system when neither will operate.

Other than that, no probs. You should love the SG5. After you activate, they will try to hit you up for another $20 so that you can have up to 20 skycourses downloaded on your SG5 at once. Kinda mean, but it was worth it to me. Good luck!

My SG5 in the mail today. Took about 30 minutes to get it registered, new firmware installed, and 20 courses downloaded. I took it outside to check it out. The SG5 actually gets a signal in the house, my SG2 didn't do that.

I wish I could transfer those self recorded courses. I recorded two courses months ago and submitted them to Skygolf to be published, but they never showed up on their website. I'll just have to record them again once spring rolls around.

SG5 is so far superior to the previous models...I had a SG3, which fortunately I dropped and it broke, when I went to SG5 I was amazed at how much better it is...enjoy

The SG5 actually gets a signal in the house, my SG2 didn't do that.

+1 on that. I experienced it last Saturday in my home office when I downloaded a new course. I powered it up to make sure that the new course downloaded fine and when I got to the acquiring satellite screen, I am already locked to 2 satellites and actually locked in to 4 after a couple of minutes. (cool)
