yet another range finder q thread...which do you prefer?

golflogix or golfbuddy or skycaddie? (amex points ones)

howdy folks... So i read a bunch of threads to try to come to some conclusions, but i can't seem to get there, so to confuse things i guess i will start another...
I am leaning towards the golflogix device, as annual fees seem less than skycaddie, more than golfbuddy but obviously the screen doesn't show a picture, just numbers. Seems durable from the infomercial.

Background: i'm a high tech nerd, mac/linux, I play in several states and occasionally a time or two a year internationally.

I also noticed amex rewards points has the following, but to compare apples to apples, say we compare the 40-50k points ones only... But i'm also open to buying something else if there is a compelling case!

All three of those devices were rated favourably by Golf Digest. You really can't go wrong with any of them.

Golf Buddy has Mac compatibility coming in the next couple of weeks. Also, they are an international company with courses all over the world. It IS the simpliest to use....hit the power button, wait 3-4 minutes and it knows your on the 7th tee of (for example) of any particular course.

The course download page is updated every week with not only new courses but with occasional new software. The current US count is around 13,200. There's around 17,000 courses in the US and that includes every dog track, cow pasture, excuse for a golf course you can think of.

Ditto. I have several of these devices, I just can't help myself. GB constantly updates their courses, new or courses they have renovated. Looks like they just updated the device module.

I am also going to be getting one of these. I am leaning to the Golf Logix for no other reason than Garmin software. I had an iGolf iCaddie, and it worked fine for the 60% of the time I could get the satellites. I'm hoping to have better luck with a new device, and I know and have confidence in Garmin GPS.

I went with the GolfLogix, both because it has Garmin hardware and because of the single price fee for worldwide coverage. I haven't had any reason to regret my choice. The simplicity is a good selling point too. Turn in on when near the first tee and it picks the course correctly, loads it and takes it to the tee. Then you never have to touch it unless you are measuring a shot or wanting to look farther ahead on a hole than the unit does automatically.
