I am sorry but the cost of golf balls along with everything else is out of control. Correct me if I am wrong but the cost to make a golf ball is somewhere around .18 cents a ball. So if you multiply that by 12 you get $2.16 per dozen. I know you have shipping and other costs but that is ridiculous, but if people are willing to pay it, why not if you are Titleist or any other company.

Same as every Pro V1 and Pro V1x in history. MAP is the Minimum Advertised Price that dealers can have on huge signs and labels and maintain their Titleist account.

 

Next to nothing is sold at the MSRP.

 

When you see "Call for Price" or "Add to Cart for Price" online or in a magazine it is a pretty good bet they are selling at a price below the MAP.

I'm a Titleist loyal and this is the least excited i've been about a new golf ball in a long time. Yes, i will try them, and yes, i will probably end up using them pretty regularly, but i'm not going to be rushing to the store on 2/15

it's not all about the cost of the raw materials. The production cost to produce a multi-layer, multi-material ball is a lot higher. I remember reading an article in one of the golf mags (digest, magazine, world, etc) about this and they even got a quite from one of the major manufacturers talking about the differences between the tour golf balls and the other two-piece balls that they make.

I picked up a dozen Pro V1's today, the X standard numbers had not arrived yet.

 

I payed $45.99 for the dozen. I also saw Golfsmith had them instock, they should be available everywhere in the next few days.

They are available at Dick's now too. I talked to the rep there and asked about them. He said the 2009s can be identified by a small circle on the side of the box (prob to make sure they stopped producing the original flavor).

 

In any case, he said they are not near as good as the original (tested spin, etc. in the simulator) and that they will be coming out with a new formulation sometime mid-year that *should* be OK. So, until then I am going to save my pennies and go with what I have.

 

Any other insight on this?

Isn't the whole graphic on the 2009 box different? I was under the impression that the red dot on the box meant that they were a converted 2007 model.

That is correct, the ones with the circle are the "old" ball not the new 2009 Pro V1.

They're in stock at Roger Dunn locations in socal. $45.99 per dozen. The old models are also in stock, so look for the darker boxes that say "New" on the front.

Lets have somebody who has hit both the Old Prov1x and the New Prov1x compare both of these in Distance, Durabilty, Feel, and Spin.....

I was playing a course I had only played once before and it was pretty windy, so it will be a bit tought to compare, but I got a bit more distance. The ball flight was more penatrating and not as high as the old ones. The greenside feel and putting was very similar. I only used a spin-milled wedge twice during the round, but the cover held up quite a bit better than the old ones. I couldn't tell much about the spin because of the conditions today, but I am playing again this week so we'll see.
