Graphite design YS-7+ reviews!!!

Hi guys!!!

 

I don't find many reviews about this shaft! I'm looking for something low launch, low spins and with GREAT FEEL!!! I tried two years ago the YS-6+ stiff shaft and it had a very good feel but it was too whippy for my swing (average Swing Speed - 111mph fast tempo)

 

I pretty sure there are some YS-7+ lovers here!!! :man_in_love: I

Even Better then the YS-7+ is the Purple Ice. You can probably swing the X but maybe would prefer the Tour Stiff. Slightly higher launch but will not ballon on you! Low spin got me, about 2450.

I have hit nearly everything and for me these are the best.

The YS-7+ is a great shaft with low-mid launch and spin with great feel. I highly recommend it for you, but I would recommend getting the X and tipping it 1/2" or 3/4" with your swingspeed/tempo. X flex in the YS-7+ is for a range of 100-110 with an average tempo.

I have an 8.5 905R with a YS-7+ S and it is a superb combo. My ss is around 100. Have also played the YS-6+ and it was too soft and had too much spin.

 

The YS-7+ has a considerably different feel. Much more solid, almost boardy without being boardy if that makes sense. It makes you really feel like you know where the clubhead is. I get a great traj with that combo and not too much spin. My personal guess is that a YS-7+ X would be a REALLY stiff feeling shaft, but with your ss it may be right for you. I'm sure it would be too stiff for me. For the $$$ I'd say it's a hard shaft to beat. I put a Vista Tour 60 in my 909D3. It is 10g lighter (68g vs. 78g) than the YS-7, but plays very similarly. If you're looking for the 78g weight range, the YS-7+ is a great selection.

Does this shaft play softer to flex ?

 

On the golfsmith website, X flex is 100-110 mph driver swinspeed!!!

I personally don't think it plays softer than the indicated flex. It does certainly play stiffer than a YS-6 S flex, and about the same as a Vista Tour 60 S flex.

I played the YS-7 in my driver and 3 wood for a while (X-stiff) and couldn't keep it from ballooning a bit. And it felt slightly softer in flex than I liked. So, I took it back in, and had it tipped 3/4 an inch and BAM...problem solved. It has such a smooth feel, especially for the price you are paying for it. I play a Diamana WB in my driver but man I love the YS-7 in my 3 wood. You feel like you can load up on it off the tee, and still feel like you get enough give/kick to hit it off the deck. Great shaft.

[size=4]This is an ancient thread and I'm off topic slightly but hopefully I can find some answers none the less. I just grabbed a couple of YS-7+ shafts in TX but I thought they were going to be regular "X" shafts. I can not seem to find any information to the specs between the two flexes. I am a 110 SS guy with a moderate tempo who sometimes succumbs to those silly swings 115+. I am just wanting to know some info before I install these guys so I can tip them accordingly.[/size]

I have played the YS+ 8.1 S for a long time (only FWs now) and it plays fairly firm for 107 SS. In the Hireko DSFI listing, they show the butt frequency for the YS+ 7 about 15 cpm higher than the 8.1 S I play. Torque is higher too at around 3* compared to the 2.6* of mine. I would think the TX could take anything you throw at it straight in. If you like a really stable feel, tip it an inch.

Thanks for the snappy reply. I have some 8.1x on the way for my 3 and 5 woods. I guess I'm a little concerned these shafts may be too much for me but I got them at a killer deal. I know they were made during the bore through days so there is a lot of tip to play with. I play driver and woods 1/2 under so that will weaken them a little when I swing weight them

You should be fine. X freq is the same in the 7 and the 8.1. I can't remember the tipping instructions, but I used them in my 975 LF-E as borethru and the S wasn't boardy at all. It actually had some liveliness to it.

Let me know what you end up doing. I have a YS-7 sitting in the corner that I may throw in my G30. Very curious to see how it performs.

I will post my findings here but it won't be until December or so. I am not going to have much time to build sticks until winter freezes up.
