White hot tour #9

I dunno if someone has already asked this but i cant find it anywhere. Just wondering if the white tour #9 sets up closed like the white hot xg? thanks

that sucks cuz i love the look of the 9 more than any of the other putters with that style head, and i love the feel of the white hot tour insert... but i dont like how it sets up left. any way to bend it?

Just re-grip and open the grip up one degree. This will solve any closed issues you have with the putter. You dont even have to buy a new grip.

but it isnt when i set up to it that it closes, its when i just sit the club behind the ball without really gripping it. the putter head just rests on the ground in a closed position

I know EXACTLY what you guys are complaining about. Just letting the sole rest on the ground, the toe wants to turn in. It almost feels like there is a pivot point on the sole and the putter wants to rotate closed at rest.

 

However, I have found that if you have a forward press, the club squares up. But it still doesn't fix the fact that the sole of the putter doesn't allow the club to rest square.

try the #5, it sets up good and square

If you were playing on a course where the greens were made of linoleum or concrete, I would worry about that, but on a green it doesnt set up that way. Also, the setup will promote a forward press. Press forward a bit and it will be square.

I have this putter and have never noticed how it sits. What does it matter the way it sits on the ground at rest? Is that how you putt, no alignment of your own, just the putter at rest?

I was just at the golf store today and I found out something very interesting about the #9 putters.

 

Some putters did not turn in as much as others. One sat perfectly square, and I was putting on cement carpet green. Another one, A Bronze Tour #9, all it wanted to do was pivot around this spot on the sole. I couldn't understand why. So I looked at the bottom. The sole needed to be ground down at that pivot point. I compared it to the XG, and the Black Series and some were good and some were bad. Inconsistent sole grinds, if you ask me. I even did a dollar bill test, where I slid the bill under the sole when the putter was resting on the ground flat. The most square heads didn't allow the bill to get to far towards the middle, and the real bad sole would allow the bill to slide right up to the excess of material, further into the middle. Interesting.

now that I have been messing around with my 9 I realized it doesnt sit closed. perfectly square.

That's why I bought my Tour #9, I was just looking around in the store not at Odysseys and picked it up because of the color I had not seen. Every time I set it down it felt perfectly square, so I started putting with it... I put it in the bag for a while to rotate with my others, I didn't have an insert putter, so thought I would give it a try. I don't care much for all the colors on the grip, but it feels nice.
