I'm seeing a rumor of a $100 uPro rebate for starting 6/1/09. Anyone find proof?

Its true, I called Callaway to confirm. It must be bought from a brick and mortar store. Ebay is no good.

From what I heard, you have to supply PROOF OF PURCHASE for MAP price. Any units that sell the product under $399 will not qualify for the rebate.

Its not a great unit by any means. I DL'd courses into it when I got to the course they weren't there. I got rid of it and went back to SG5.

it's on par with anything else out there, and has some added features others don't... it's not perfect, far from it, but it holds it's own against the SG's...

 

sounds like an operator issue in your case, and not the unit itself...

Great unit... love the uPro. Bought mine for 299 a while back and it is a great unit.

Try calling Callaway to verify rebate eligibility - any authorized retailer that chooses to participate is eligible. There are authorized internet retailers, and there is nothing on the rebate form specifically excluding internet retailers. I spoke to someone at Callaway last week who said all warranties and rebates are honored by Callaway as long as it's an authorized seller.

 

Again, check with Callaway. There are lots of golfers without easy brick-mortar retailer access so excluding authorized internet sellers would have the exact opposite impact if indeed the purpose of the rebates are to stimulate interest and sales.

From June 1, 2009 – July 31, 2009, purchase a new Callaway uPro GPS device (“Qualified Product”) from a participating authorized U.S. retail location (“Participating Retail Location”), to receive a $100 Mail-in Rebate (“Rebate”). Purchases made from non-Participating Retail Locations will not qualify.

 

I guess the trick is determining who is a "Authorized Retail Location" and who is not...

 

I gotta be honest at $219 potentially (eBay prices of $319 minus rebate) this could/would be a no-brainer...

Callaway Rep told me that Amazon and eBay merchants are not authorized dealers so the rebate will not apply. I don't know about other retailers who may be selling the units at less than $399, and Callaway has not replied to my email asking that very question.

 

The units probably will work, but he did say Callaway doesn't support units not bought from authorized dealers or sold and transferred by original owners. The way to tell is at registration. If the unit has already been registered (I've not heard anyone complain about this from Amazon or any other seller for that matter though), then Callaway will require registration verification that you may not be able to provide. The C-rep said if you can't verify the unit, then you're simply out of luck and will get no help from Callaway.

If Callaway lists Amazon (the largest internet retailer in the world) as "non-authorized".......then they deserve every headache they encounter trying to move sales on these units.

if amazon is a go, then I'd consider buying one to replace my SG3. although I've heard many complaints about the screen being hard to read in the sun, I'm sure it's a non issue for golf cart players.

Not so. I called Callaway about that specific issue and have an email from them confirming I can take advantage of any retail store discounts and still get my full rebate. GolfGalaxy has some coupons that give me $50 off and I can take advantage of that and still get the $100 rebate. At $150 off, it's a great deal. That deal also applies if you buy it on line from GG. UPDATE: Oddly enough, it apparently ONLY works on-line, the local retail store says they can't honor it because it isn't in their system. <sigh> Golf Galaxy is remarkably hard to love.

 

You cannot combine the rebate with any other Callaway deals, but I don't know of anything that would apply to at the moment.

 

HOWEVER, I suspect you may have an issue if you buy it from someone who isn't an authorized Callaway dealer. You can find them on the Callaway website, including authorized internet dealers.

Don't confuse units that weren't purchased from an authorized dealer and ones that are previously registered. If it's a new unit, Callaway will certainly support it. You register it the first time you access the site to get your free home course. At that point, they have no idea where you bought it, but they do know it's brand new and never previously registered. However, they would certainly know if it was previously registered, at which point they may or may not help you out. If it's used, it may be out of warranty.

 

Having said that, I have to also say that while Callawy tries hard to protect their authorized dealers, and prevent price erosion by enforcing MAP, I have NEVER had a Callaway rep ask me when or where I bought a product. They bend over backwards to provide excellent service to people who buy and use their products. They aren't trying to find ways to drive us into the arms of their competitors.

Just ordered one from GPP. By adding GPP on my Facebook and Twitter accounts, I got $20.00 credit on my account, so $350.00 minus $20.00, plus $100.00 rebate, ended up getting it for $230.00 after rebate. Seems like a pretty good deal to me!

$230 is an awesome deal. I paid $300 and I thought that was a deal.

 

I did wonder if this rebate is a sign of a new model coming, but I also noticed no one carried the red box a few months ago, and now every golf store in town has a big supply. The retail supplies look to be HUGE with Callaway buying the product, so I think the rebate is just a way to stir up some sells for Father's Day.

I was already leaning pretty hard towards the uPro. At this price, I had to pull the trigger. $328 less $100 rebate and free shipping from Amazon. I also ordered the Lowepro Tasca 20 case that someone mentioned. Sounds perfect for either clipping onto the bag (when walking) or onto a belt loop (when riding). Hard to beat that. Thanks all for the great info.
