I like Phil a lot and it looked like he could have used the wedge that was taken out of the bag on 18. I can't see him carrying two drivers at the Masters.

Driver - TaylorMade Stealth2 9* w/ Project X HZRDUS 6.0 60g

3 wood - Sonartec NP99 w/ Matrix Ozik 60R

Phil said that one is 45" and one is 46".......he said he doesn't have to change his swing to make one go left and the other one right. Instead, he just focuses on a normal swing and lets the driver setup affect the ball flight.

Why not a neutral one that he can work both ways!!?! Well at 24 under and keeping making birdies, I guess it's working!

I have to disagree. Phil's bad shot at 18 was a chunk. It had nothing to do with the loft of his wedge.

As for the Masters, people I know who have been to the even ALL say the same thing, TV does not do justice to the narrow shoots that drives must go through. Once you clear the shoots, you MUST be able to work your driver to get the right angle to the green.

He is doing great and should have a nice fat check to justify his strategy by the end of the day.

Chunk ??? Wish I knew how to chunk a ball that one hops on to the green the spins off...all my chunks generally have ZERO backspin on them....

How could you find out if your chunks don't have any spin on them. Mine never get far enough to find out. Usually, they land in a bunker and bury themselves. :idhitit:

Actually, I used the word "chunky" to reflect the heavy contact he got. From the second he hit it, you could tell he didn't get the contact he expected.

Chunk or not on 18, IMO if Phil had a choice he probably would have rather taken that same short approach shot over water to a tight pin placement with his 56* that was taken out of the bag rather than his 52* gap wedge. You could tell he looked indecisive about the shot and his caddie was also concerned about it.

He won the Masters once before with one driver and I believe he can win another the same way.

I think Phil is doing well with less wedges and not because of more woods. For me, I carry a PW, 56 and 60, and I feel that is enough for me. I think the more club options, the more shot options there are and the more your mind begins to wander and second guess the type of shot to hit. I can hit any shot I can ever come up with and the club options are simple. This is just my take though.

In an old GD WITB Phil said that he usually takes out the 56 wedge because he simply spins it too much to contol on the fast greens of the PGA. I also remember hearing the annoucners saying that the shorter one he hits 290 with a fade, and the longer one 310 with a draw and they were weighted so he just makes normal swings and gets different results. My problem is i make the same swing and get either of those results (much shorter, but still) and I just dont' know when they come out, lol.

i know a lot of golf know-it-alls are gonna try and slam me for this, but i don't like it. isn't this guy suppose to be good enough to hit cuts, fades, draws with one stick? technology doesn't do much for the tour as it does for us, but i tell you this, the day i see a guy in my group playing two drivers i'm gonna laugh at him; especially if he thinks one is for cuts. all this new technology is way overboard. guys not playing three irons anymore, now some don't 4 iron either.

You can laugh all you want at whatever someone plays until they beat you. I've played against guys who shoot good scores using 7 and 9 woods instead of long irons. Last I checked there isn't any room on the scorecard for listing the clubs you use.

Phil seems to know what works. He lapped the field this week, has 2 majors and 30 total wins.

My draw comes out with water left and the fade comes out when there is OB right.

I have a TM 425 and when I set it up "low" it goes high and when set up "high" it goes low. To fix my fade, I tried the draw set up and discovered it resulted in the dreaded hosel rocket.

New strategy - accept the fade, aim for the left bunker and hope I don't pull it.

They asked bones if phil had ever played better golf in his career. Bones simply responded no. I think Phil deserves credit and the two drivers is a great idea. You cant complain with 28 under and i think Phil will win his 2nd green jacket next week, with two drivers in the bag.

Phil WILL have the 2 drivers in the bag at Augusta, saw it on TGC earlier. All the talk about 2 driver, what about people playing 4 wedges?
