am i good enough for college golf?

right now im in the mid 70's. im a freshman in highschool and should be gettin around high 60's if i keep it up definatly by senior year. say i want to play at a GOOD college golf program like GT, what do i have to shoot consistently?

Paul and my gpa is 4.24 so how would scholarships work out?

well its hard to say bc it really depends on tournament scores in big tournaments. unfortunately, playing at your club and shooting in the 60s in a tournaments two completely different things. the guys playing at those schools regularly break par. breaking par is definitely one of the hardest things to do so be careful in expecting to be regularly sub par in 3 yrs. the problem with breaking par is that you basically have to have a better than mistake free round to do it. id say in ajga's to play at a top 10 or so golf program like GT and Oklahoma State you need to break par almost every time you play an ajga or come darn close to it from the guys that are on their teams. Get a team roster and search for the kids names on ajga and youll get some idea.

In order to play for a School like GT you have to be inside the TOP 20 on the Titleist/golfweek rankings...guys like roberto castro averaged a 68 in big national tourneys. Adam cohan was a local kid from my area who now goes to and plays for GT. he was ranked 14th at his best i believe. its all about how you perform in big nationally ranked tourneys, keep plugging away you'll get it.

i think these guys have hit this nail on the head, you need to be playing big tournaments, but not only play, you need to do very well to go to a DI college, but if you are still a freshman, then keep up the hard work man, and you will get into a college somewhere!!!! goodluck!!!

you're only a freshman... you shouldn't be thinking about playing D1 golf right now... you should be thinking about playing well in HS golf...

AND National/Bigger tournaments. Unfortunately, college coaches do not look at High School golf besides championships. As a freshman, just play in a few bigger tournaments this summer, and probably enroll into the AJGA, IJGT, FCWT, or PGA Junior Series just to get your name out there!

college golf is for the best of the best. If you are looking for a scholarship right out of high school then national tourney's are the way to go. Start putting together a resume, pick 10 schools you are interested in and send them to the golf coach, with a tape of your swing. Update the resume every year and keep sending them so they can track your progress. They aren't supposed to respond until beginning of your junior year but they'll appreciate the hard work. If you don't need a scholarship, ANYONE can try out, within reason. If you have the ability to break par consistantly, there will be a place for you to play, you can always walk on and then earn a scholarship. Like people said earlier, worry about playing in HS and learning to win, get in contact with coaches to get your name out there, and always enjoy the game.
