Best of the best - Irons - showdown.

Rank these - based on pure unadulterated feel
I'm not sure how much of an impact, grip style, grip width, shaft and ball have on the feel of an iron but if possible, rank these irons in terms of best overall feel. I'm curious. I think i've narrowed down the general consensus for "best of the best".

Miura Mb-5003 or Miuraism (whatever feels best of the two)
Epon AF Tours
Mizuno MP 37 (or another model if there's one that feels better)
Kyoei Zestaim
Pro Preference blades.

I have Mp-37's, Epon Technica Tour Spec blades (similar to 301s) and Miura MB-5003's. Never tried the others. Out of these three, i'm going

Epon - cushiest or spongiest,
Miura - most solid/strong feeling
Mizuno - kind of a blend of the two - very effortless feeling.

Get the Miura's!

I apologize for straying off topic, but after reading muddawg1's personal statement I thought you guys might find this entertaining.
I know that all the alcohol consumed by golfers is not all in the form of beer.
It should also be noted that all alcohol consumed by golfers is not all on the golf course, but please bare with me for the fun of it.

1 gallon=128 oz
128 oz X 22 gallons=2816 oz of alc. per year
2816 oz divided by 365 days=7.71 oz alc per day
A 12 oz beer at .5% alc. by volume= .6 oz alc by volume per beer = 12.833 12 oz beers per day.
I know some of you drink more than that, but that number seems a little high for an average, but we will use it anyway.
1760 yds in a mile X 900 miles=1,584,000 yds per year
Average golf course is 6,800 yds or less. We'll use 6,800 yds.
I know there are par 3's, 4's, and 5,s but 6,800 yds divided by 18= 378 yds per hole average.
900 miles or 1,584,000 yds divided by 378 yds per hole = 232.94 rounds per year per average golfer.
232.94 divided by 56 weeks in a year = 4.16 rounds per week.
I am sure some of you play more than 4.16 rounds per week, I think that number is probably high, but we will use it anyway for an average.
232.94 rounds per year with an average golf course length at 6,800 yds and average hole length at 378 yds.
232.94 rounds X 18 holes = 4,192.92 holes per year.
22 gallons or 2816 oz of alc. per year at .6 oz of alc per 12 oz beer = 4,693.33 12 oz beers per year and
4,693.33 beers per 4192.92 holes = 1.12 beers per hole!
1.12 beers per hole X 18 = 20.16 beers per round!

It's no wonder the average golfers score is over 100!

Sorry about the topic detour.

I love the miura's. Those things just scream GOLF in my eyes. So simple and strong. I just wish they had a stock grind that worked for me.

Do you have the same shaft and grips on all of them?

Do you have pix? I'd like to see what the hosels look like and how the shafts are stepped.

Because it's not always the heads that make them feel cushy.

Thanks

I'll vote, with several before me, with the Epon AF tours.

It is the only blade that I've hit that has the sweet spot in the actual
center of the face. If you have some heads, that aren't shafted, stand
up a tee and balance the the head untill it sits on the tee. If you're like my
tests, most of them are so close to the inside portion of the grooves, you
will believe them impossible to hit.

I had an aoem rep tell me to flatten out the lie until the balance point moved
to the center. I didn't know how to respond to that.

Surprising things happen when you test heads side by side each mounted on the shaft of your choice. Having supplied that option for a series of very good players, more than half ended up choosing the Mac blades over the more exotic rivals. Granted, very small sample - ten players - but still surprising results.

I think that with the Japanese blades it's very important to make sure the sole grind suits the course you play. The Miura tournament blades have a very sharp leading edge with little bounce. After my best nine holes of ball striking at Poppy Hills with the tournament blades, I celebrated with a beer at the turn. All of a sudden, I started coming up short on the back side and couldn't figure out why. Turns out I was just a little off, coming a bit heavy, but because of the sharp leading edge I couldn't feel it. I've gone to the 301's - a little bigger head and a little more bounce better suited to the soft conditions I find in Northern California.

With the looming water shortage, it may be that the tournament blades will be a good bet for the future. They're made for harder surfaces.

Just one more thing to consider in making the choice. . .

Regards, Leith Anderson, Golf Lab, Palo Alto, CA.
