IMO, a bit of both. Probably weighted more towards the former than the latter. I have one. I used it. I think it did a bit of good for me. But it is not a cureall. But the big benefits claimed in the infomercial are more related to the subjects swinging a heavy club for a few minutes, then hitting balls, than it is to discovering all their swing flaws in a few minutes.

Wanna buy mine?

The Dual Hinge Driver is a nice training device for monitoring clubshaft, clubhead, and clubface. However, it can be difficult to use in the beginning but with a little practice it corrects and maintains alignments very well. The Pure Ball Striker works well in combination with it allowing the golfer to better feel their motion.

In laymans terms, tell me how it helps my golf swing. If it matters, I am a 20 hcp golfer and often hit fat shots with irons and occasional hook or block with driver.[/quote]

The Pure Ball Striker allows the player to monitor their hands. The condition, location and direction for any motion. Every stroke has an address, top and finish.

I have the dual hinge 5-iron, which should be similar to the driver with respect to how well it performs. I found a couple of issues with it's use. First, if you are a follower of the Tour Tempo theories, you know that the time from take away to impact can be as little as 1.2 seconds. I defy anyone to swing a Medicus hinged club at that tempo and not break the hinge at the beginning of the takeaway (unless you have it adjusted so tightly that it won't break, period). This promotes a backswing that is too slow, IMO. Second, I find that one can easily manipulate the club during the backswing so that it doesn't break down, which is defeating the purpose.

What I do like to do with my Medicus 5-iron is perform Shawn Clement's perpetual motion drill. If I start with small swings and gradually lengthen the motion until I am doing full swings back and though, thus creating some centrifugal force, the hinge only breaks down if I am off plane, etc.

As an alternate solution to the Medicus, I prefer weighted clubs (don't have to be all that heavy), the Orange Whip, and the Swingyde (just bought a second one so I can have one at home in my basement and one in the bag).

ITS NOT HYPE !!..

if your break the hinge any time in the swing.. swinging it all wrong..

it tells you if your on the right plane.

Basically if you can do it full swing , full speed, without manipulation, its a good "swing "

From what I see on TV many a pro would not be able to swing that thing without breaking the hinge.....

it teaches a flat swing, if you are 5'9 or less then go for it. it is almost impossible to swing this "club" with an upright swing. so all the 6' people and on up. you are wasting your money.

I have it and am not in love with it. At first I thought it helped, but after a few sessions it didn't seem to help much and I started to wish I had spent the money on golf lessons instead. So it basically collects dust in my closet these days. I'm over 6' tall, so if the previous post is right, that could be why it didn't help me.

I'm 6'2" and have benefitted greatly from from the dual-hinged driver, so the suggestion that a tall golfer with a steeper swing can't use it is false.

It won't replace lessons from a teaching pro, and it certainly won't teach someone with a laundry list of poor fundamentals how to swing correctly. But if you have a solid foundation of fundamentals and you see a pro routinely, I think the Medicus can enhance your practice sessions.

What I've found it to help most with is tempo, in terms of engraining a smooth takeaway and a smooth transition from the top into the downswing. I even keep it my bag when I'm playing for practice swings on the tee-box. If I take a couple of practice swings with the Medicus, then grab my regular driver and go after the ball, I get my best results off the tee.
