WOW

Thank you for an awesome find. I really enjoyed Malaska's take on Nichols theories. Joe was truly ahead of his time!!!

Kevin

To my eyes Ben Hogan's release had less 're-c0ck' after the ball than the above images, his club almost looks to be flying out of his hands and shoulder sockets.

What I find interesting above is the recocking of the wrists after impact looks very modern and also like stack and tilt. As above, I don't think Ben Hogan did this, but... I think the modern driver teed up high requires a different release with the club head rotating less about its axis through the impact zone than an old driver with more loft and teed lower. And it makes sense to me that if JN was 'army' and right sided through the ball as the article suggests, in my mind it would control the club through the ball and explain the right arm governing the rate of closure and the uncocking-early re-cocking motion of the club.

So yes, whilst I think his arms are more active than many modern ideas I think he truly was ahead of his time, especially regarding the big stick.

It was established very early in the thread that Mr. Nichols teaching had nothing to do with Hogan's swing, that wasn't my point, nor the point of the posts on Nichols...

No probs, I wasn't saying it did, it just felt like a relevant juncture to make a comparison and an observation about something that I seem to see a lot of today (re-cocking the club quickly), and that I've not heard anyone else mention. Especially seeing yourself posting I actually wondered what you thought (was initially going to PM you!).

Got it. Thanks David!

I no longer am able to play or teach. My interest was really in Mr. Nichols as he was such a character. :D

Happy New Year David!!! :friends:
