New Tour for the East Valley

Great Schedule and good pricing
http://eastvalleytour.com/East_Valley_Tour/Application.html

Hey All,

Just saw this new tour that got started. It is on the east side of the valley primarily. Its only $50 to join and tournies are $70-85.

The prize money is guaranteed!!!

It is a little different format: 3 flights, Net score within flights. BTW, IMO this is a great format because you play in your general HC range but compete with a HC. Flight #1 is 7 and below. Everyone in that flight will compete because you get your strokes based on your HC.

The list of courses is outstanding! except for a couple.

The schedule coordinates with the off weeks for the GCAT, so I will probably be taking advantage of the opportunity.

Man, the landscape is getting crowded with all these amateur tours popping up. Gotta love the options!

Egolf has a more diverse schedule across the valley for those on a budget. Budget entry fees like the EV Tour, plays weak courses in prime season like the EV Tour, but is played at Gross vs Net. Looks like EV Tours main competitor. http://www.amateurgolftour.net/phoenix_tour_pages/

The popular Golf Channel Amateur Tour plays to larger purses on higher quality venues for a moderately priced entry fee. Seems to be the tour of choice in the valley based on turnout. Then there is the National Players Tour where you have HUGE payouts with a HUGE entry fee to match. Plays some great private courses in the valley. http://www.ipgaz.com/

Does anybody know of others not mentioned? Where do members of the boards play? I play the Golf Channel tour and the Nationals are at Sawgrass this year! Can't beat that!

I did a schedule and The EV Tour and the GCAT don't cross on a number of events, so a few of us our going to do both. The egolf tour has too many events that cross and on the other side of town for me. I like the EV tour format a little better...HC'd within flight, where as the egolf is gross within flight(flights are little large). The egolf plays from 6200 or less as well.(don't like that).

I also am playing in the winter league on Sats.

Don't forget you have the AGA events too: azgolf.org I plan on playing the mid-am series this year. Those were Fridays at all Private courses in AZ.

You playing Vistancia next week Clue? I am thinking of heading out for a practice round on Sat if interested?

I feel duped. I have sent in my $50 because I was excited about the GUARANTEED prize money. Now I read this in their rules that was not in the rules when I joined.

1st - $100 (1-7 players per level) 2nd - $50 (8-11 players per level) 3rd - $25 - (over 12 players per level). This comes out to a measly $14.50 per player on a full field of 12. What if only 6 players show up? Only 1st is paid and no 2nd and 3rd.

I guess Guaranteed does not always mean what it implies. I am going to ask for a refund of my $50 and stick with the Golf Channel. More expensive, but no bull crap to worry about. I guess you always get what you pay for...

I am going to write the guy and see what he has to say.

UPDATE: Spoke with TD on the issue noted above and he said that he did not intend to confuse folks and may have done so with the script on the Rules page.

Sounds like the payout is $100 for 1st and $50 for second guaranteed with 7 players, and the prize pool goies up with more.

He is going to make some edits and hopefully make it clearer.

Additionally, he added the RIM Golf course in Payson to the schedule.

Take a look clueless and see if the changes make more sense.

Yup. Played both events so far. Johnson Ranch was rained out...but the guys that stayed played a skins game.

This last Sunday was at Vistal.

There is little to no sandbagging that I noted. And the way the system is set up it is hard to sandbag....you get penalized strokes for going too far under. Plus it is handicapped by flight....which worked well IMO. It was actually a little more on the opposite side...guys that had a lower HC and shot much worse.

Payout was 1, 2,3 in each flight.

Pace of play was pretty good...actually, we were slowed down by public play that was out in front of us, more than anything else.

TD gave out a bunch of stuff as gifts.(balls, Golfsmith gift cards, other stuff). There was a massage therapist there giving out massages on Sunday morning for gratuities and she plans on being back for most of the events.

The TD listened to the feedback and is working constantly to improve.

Skins are only $10...I prefer $20, but this tour tries to keep the fees down.

Next week is Estrella....he added The Rim for an event.

All in All I was quite pleased...wish I played a little better. In general, these look to be very good events moving forward.

Heh, I just saw this question. - I'm finding it takes some work to undo 40 years of bad habits.

Good luck with the tournaments.

Well some feedback on the East Valley Tour and why I am done with it and warn others to not bother.

While it started out like it was going to be decent, it quickly has gone downhill. The TD does not have a clue how to run events and the attendance has shown it...last event was 11 players.

The key reason, the TD is clueless on handicapping. He has modified handicaps every event in some odd ridiculous fashion. Unknowingly I signed up for the Poston Butte event and when we exchanged scorecards on the first tee, I noticed that a OFFICIAL 4 HC had been moved to a 10 and am OFFICIAL 5 HC had been moved to a 13. WTF??!!

Well, I am sure you can see where this is going...They destroyed the field. There were a lot of disappointed folks.

Apparently, because they shot poorly in the previous event, they were rewarded through some nebulous HC calculation.

Needless to say, I wrote the TD and let him know I would not be participating anymore. Even worse, the 5 HC that was adjusted wrote the TD and told him that he was way off base with the HC.

I think this tour is pretty much done judging by the last event...

That sucks man, seems like alot of peoples complaints are around the handicaps on these tours.

We should start a golfwrx tour hahhaa. Hell with a consistent turn out of 20 or so, we'd already have this tour beat!

Thanks for the info. Not all handicap tours have handicapping issues. Check out the Medal Play Golf Tour www.medalplaygolftour.com that is based in Palm Springs, CA. The TD used to run the egolf tour here in Phoenix and left to run his own thing. He started the tour in Palm Springs as he has a non compete here in Phx for awhile. It is expanding to Phoenix in 2011 and they definately have sandbagging under control. I played the egolf tour and now play the Golf Channel. Next year I plan on doing both tours. They will be having a big 2 day tour championship in Palm Springs next year. I spoke with the TD recently and he informed me that one of his ex players stole his idea and started the EV tour. Check out the Medal Play website and draw your own conclusion.
