Clubs Clang

Recommended Posts

is there anything to stop my clubs from clanging?
I have a Callaway Warbird stand bag and I love it. My problem is that when I walk the clubs clang into each other. I thought about changing bags but before I that I have a question. Is there anything that will fit on my current bag that will lock the clubs in place so they don't touch each other. I guess I mean like a poor mans 14-club divider that fits into a bag.

Also is there a right or wrong way to put clubs in a bag? woods on top, side or bottom...irons on top or bottom??? Hope that makes sense

Very simple... when you have the bag on your shoulder, grab the end of the bag that has the clubs sticking out and hold the irons with one hand, the bottom of the bag with the other. Also wrap your towel in there and that helps with the noise.

Bag chatter isn't so bad, its the denting of the forged irons that people don't like.

Just get a towel and weave it in between the irons. Keeps them from clanging and you have a useful towel to clean clubs, dry hands, wipe off sweat, etc.

Mr Towlie is the only way there is. Bag chatter means your irons are happy. I just got tired of listening to it and put my hand over them.drinks.gif

Back in the day when I was a caddie, virtually every golf bag had 3 zones, sometimes the zones were halved, but most times not. I was taught that the woods and the putter go in the top part where the strap is, the irons up to the 7 go in the middle, and anything else goes in the bottom slot. Is that the right way? I don't know, but it was the right way back then....

I do like hateto3put said except the putter is kept with the wedges up front. I have never liked having to reach over the driver and woods to get to the other clubs so this way of doing it just made sense to me whether I am on the range(stand bag) or the bag is in a cart. But to each his own, do what makes most sense to you. Hateto3put has got me thinking about why they would want the putter with the woods; I may try that and see how I like it.

The bags with the 14 dividers, besides being more heavy, cause more club rattle because the iron heads arent laying on top of one another. The more dividers you have the more the clubs are separated in the bag the more they bang against each other .

I do all that but when they are in my car I can't hold on to them. I remember a product that clipped to the bag and locked all the clubs in place.

Thought you said you were tired of them clanking when you were walking? Anyway, maybe better suspension for your car so they don't rattle???

I think you're best off with the towel idea.

I just received my Callaway FT Hybrid bag and spent a good hour trying different ways to place my clubs. I think I finally came up with a set up im happy with. I have new irons and contrary to what some people might think, I have headcovers on them. I spray my clubs, clean out out the grooves with a brush and wipe them down with with a microfibre cloth before putting the headcovers back on. When I store them at home I take the covers off and let them dry out in case any moisture was absorbed by them. They stop the chatter when I walk and protect them when I transport my clubs so I wouldnt think twice about using anything else.

I'll try to post some pics tomorrow...

I managed to take some photos so you could see what the headcovers look like on and also the order I have my clubs in the bag. After looking at the photos, I would make one slight adjustment. I would put the 5/6 in the middle pocket in front of the 3Hybrid ( I have a 4H on the way) because they are a bit longer and they will rest on the headcovers of the hybrids. Along the right side I would then continue 7,8,9 (7 being furthest back because it is longer). Then left side P,52*, (56* is on the way), 60*.

The headcovers are small enough that I can slip them off and put it in my back pocket, play the shot and put them back on. It takes no time at all once you get used to it.

Of course its up to you what you prefer. Some people have mentioned using a towel, so I included a pic of my rain hood. I take off my headcovers and use this when its raining and weave it inbetween my clubs.

I hope this helps!

I do exactly the same thing, just weave the towel through, and also hold the irons with your hand if you walk
