Standard putter length?

I can use 34 or 35 either one but 34 just seems the right length for me. Enough arm hang to give me a loose free stroke and that helps.....

Big fan of the 33" putter here. I'm only 5'10", so it fits me well--don't have my hands to my chest, but don't have to stretch down to reach my putter either. Fortunately, it's not too terribly difficult to find an adequately heavy head (360gram for me, thank you--though 350 is doable) to keep the swingweight up. Life has never been better for the golfer who knows EXACTLY what he wants in a putter.

If you sharten a 35" putter to 34" that is a 340 gram head, will the head feel noticably lighter? Are there general guidelines used in shortening putters?

I have a standard (35 inch) putter but grip way down on the grip and was thinking about cutting it down to a 34 or even 33 inch. How could I add weight to the putter head and how much should I add. I have a 2 ball center shaft. If I add lead tape then where should I add it?

330 for 35". I however NEVER think a putter head should weight less than 350 grams (regardless of length). I hate that Cameron makes putters that 34"/340g and 33"/330g!

 

With that said, for every 1/2" you shorten or lengthen a club you need to add or subtract 5 grams from the head for the swingweight ("feel") to stay the same.

 

So, If you chop down a putter from 35" to 34" you will need to add 10 grams of weight to the head if you don't want it to fee lighter. Best way to do this is with lead tape.

 

The most common thing that will happen when cutting down a putter is

 

A) gain control

 

B) leave putts short for a while (until you get used to the difference in feel)

I feel i make a much better stroke with the shorter putter, since i made the switch i feel that my putting has improved , i switched approx. 5 years ago.

I'm also 5'6 and I found that 33inches is still too long for me. I think I'm going to buy a 345 or 355 weighted head and cut it down to 31inches.

I use a 34" but I choke down so that two fingers of my left hand are on the steel. I know I could get a shorter putter, but I've kind of grown used to the counter-weighting. It just feels right now, and seems to encourage me not to flip my wrists (that could be psychological, but whatever when it comes to putting).

If you think that you're short... my current putter is 31" and I may go shorter than that on the next one :)

I'm 5'6" and my preference is 32.5". I have 2 Camerons, a Laguna at 330g that I add about 14 g to and a Mid-Sur 375g head that feels too heavy, even at 32.5". I have a Tommy Armour at 365g and that feels very good to a tad heavy.

 

Interesting that Michael Campbell uses a 32" putter. I noticed a Cameron on E-Bay that had tungsten plugs put in the bottom to add weight. Too bad that is not offered as a regular service as I would go for this over ugly lead tape anyday.

33.5 inches in length w/a 350 gram weight is perfect. Wish Scotty still made the Studio Stainless, I'd buy another just to have a back-up.

34.5" for me. It's really weird but 35" feels too long and 34" too short. 34.5" feels just right no matter what putter or head weight for me.

Surprised to see the averages end up toward the shorter 34". Standard is 35" but we are showing a preference to 34".

 

I had a 34 and 35 inch putter out last week and there is a big difference in feel. A lot more than I thought. The heads were weighted appropriately also.
