Right! Re-Grooving wedges Ping EYE 2 and EYE 2+

I've just started reading "& the putter went PING" the bit about the groove rules, From

Karsten' s point of view the whole groove rule was aimed at stopping Ping from being the number 1 club being sold, which is terrible.

 

But a number of points I've noticed

 

1. To alter the eye 2 which were played under the R&A rules Ping would remove a tiny section of the face to remove the rounding off of the grooves so they would conform.

 

2. Some eye2s passed the test & some didn't

 

3. All the Ping clubs tested passed

 

4. Some other manufacturers clubs tested, didn't pass & these were clubs made by Slazenger, Mizuno, McGregor, Ram, Dunlop, Titleist, TaylorMade, Spalding etc but the R&A choose to not be concerned about these.

 

On the R&As website it says that each clubs needs to be sent in & tested..

 

I think this is probably why they brought out the 2010 groove rule to put this to bed, so all clubs before 2010 will be non conforming.

 

I also think that the R&A & the USGA have made a real mess of this whole groove rule.

 

So to answer your question, by grinding, milling or filing the face of a non conforming eye 2 iron, you can make it conforming.

What I dont understand is why arent the tour players with the grandfathered wedges using the entire Eye 2 set? as much as I'd want to have check on chips, I don't want to be hitting full iron flyers either ... that'd be almost a bigger concern. Seems odd no mention of irons.

 

btw, I don't think anyone answered the OP's question, if he can get his Eye 2 and Eye 2+ grooves similarly regrooved.

 

You are correct i havent really had my question answered i only want to use the wedges for social and county ameteur events here in the uk so i still can comply to last eyars rules so is there anywhere i can get the grooves redone??

 

also i di have a groove sharpener buts its just not good enough for the hard ping steel.
