Got the new TM TP black balls today...

I got a dozen of the new TM TP black balls today. Seem a lot harder than I was expecting. I only got to chip and putt with them though. They feel somewhat like a Prov1x to me. They spun alright around the greens. I was a little dissapointed thought. I think I might like the red ones better, but they didn't have them in the shop yet... Oh yeah, the sound off the putter was very bright. It was quite a differnce compared to the HX tour56, which I've been playing lately... They were $42.95. The place had to call Talyormade to see how much they were. I don't like that they are charging more for a completely unproven ball by a unproven ball company. That is a big risk if you ask me.

Having made the switch to the TP BLACK, I can safely say that the TP balls aren't a gimmick nor unproven. They have me to thank for this :)

The TP Black is slightly firmer than the X ball and others you've stated. You probably would like the feel of the TP RED better, however they other features to consider besides feel. If you like a higher flight(like myself) then go Black. Spin around the greens is close on both but again if you want the softer feel go RED.

Give them a round or two before you make the statements. When you see the performance you adjust to the feel!!!

I didn't mean to really rag on Taylor Made. I read it now, and it does come across that way. Maxfli is a proven company, but the average golf person doesn't know that Taylor Made bought Maxfli. They will look at the ball and say, "eh, why change from my Titleist when they just started coming out with balls and they charge the same. I'll go with the proven commodity." I don't really care that much in the price. To me it just seems like a un-wise choice to charge that much when, to the general public, you are unproven...

A friend of mine went and got some of the Red's today and we swapped a couple of sleeves so we can test them out. One reason I wanted to try the Blacks is due to the higher ball flight. I tend to hit the ball way too low, especially in the long irons. I'm hoping the spin/feel is good enough for me. I guess I was just a little dissapointed at first in the complete comparison/design to the V1x. I do have a loath of that ball. Around the greens it is too inconsistent in spin for me. I hope the Black is better in that sense. Probably not, but oh well... The ball search shall continue!! :)

Firmer than a V1x = no try for me.

Slightly firmer, Everybody must remember that Titleist still uses some Elastomer in their preimium golf balls. this is the closet man-made substance to balata. Urethane isn't bad but still not the same.

The TP BLACK is firmer, but spins more plus a better wind ball. I liking it to the HX TOUR by Callaway but better if that makes sense :)

I doubt it that these balls are made for the average golfer. If you don't know what's going on in the ball market and therefore you wonder why these balls are as pricey as Titleist Pro V1 you shouldn't consider to buy such a ball.

I would normally agree with you, but we are golfers. If we did things that made sense all the time why would average golfers go and buy two drivers after Phil won the Masters with two? Does that make sense? Of course not, but people do it anyway. Why? Because golf is an obsessive game that pulls in obsessive people. You can't tell me that 80% or more of people that buy ProV1's aren't average golfers that see the PGA players use it, so they want it too. Same reason blades sell well. Everyone wants the best...

I know whats going on in the market and I still wonder why these balls will be as pricey as tour proven, tour winning, widely accepted ball such as the Prov1. I'm not saying it isn't equal or possibly superior, but right now it only has a reputation of being expensive.

I agree. Much better explanation than my mumbo-jumbo reasoning... :)

Any ball from any company with the R&D invested in it will be priced this way. Nike One Platinum, 330 Tour, HXtour...............doesn't matter. Preimium balls REQUIRE preimium pricing!!!! :)

This isn't some re-labeled Revolution(fine ball BTW) give it a try and fairly compare it,you'll see.
