just wondering if anyone thinks the groove rule could ever be lifted i was curious what other people think of the rule does it bother you even though you are a average golfer?im a average golfer shooting anywhere from 76 86 but playing with clubs that dont conform kind of bothers me but my clubs are new this season and dont want to spend for a new set i know i should not let it bother me but it does golf world mag keeps stats from week to week and compares them to last years stats and some results are better this year i dont get it i sometimes think its to get people to buy more clubs thanks for any opinions

Well the new groove is intended to punish shots out of the rough and thats about it. And honestly it really only affects wedge play since a lot of irons were already conforming and the bottom line is good players are going to make good shots with whatever they play.

If you switched, I doubt you would really notice any diffence in your scoring.

The ones you've got will be conforming until 2024.

I don't think it will be lifted because another effect of this rule is that it greatly reduces the effectiveness of high lofted wedges - those more than 60 or 62 degrees. (At least that is what I've seen and heard on the subject.) The ball supposedly slides up the face and makes shots very difficult to control - especially from the rough, even for highly skilled players.

I really haven't followed it that closely, perhaps others here know if many/any tour players are carrying a 64 (or more) degree wedge anymore?

As for average players, as others have said, they really aren't affected by the rule change because of the delay in implementation.
