Are the B330, Pro V1X, Z StarX, Callaway Tour iZ balls longer off driver than their softer counterpa

They are longer off the tee because they impart less spin due to firmer cover and different mantle/core. Swing speed has little to due with it. They're longer for most <100 mph also.

Firmer ball spin more than there softer counterparts off the driver. There was a long discussion about the Srixon balls and why the X says it spins more of the driver than the Star. If I come across it I'll post the link here.

So a rockflight or Pinnacle extreme super duper distance ball will spin more off a driver than Nike Platinum, or even an old school balata?

Yes, for high spin players they are longer off driver - and irons, but that depends greatly on SS and compression. I've seen many people (including my FIL) that don't have nearly enough SS to benefit from the characteristics of those balls, yet they like the feel or the association. The choice typically costs them yardage, compared to another ball that's soft enough that they can compress it at impact. I play i(z) and TM TP Red, and use to play ProV1x.

I am not sure about what you're trying to saying above.

Distance balls like Pinnacle Gold spin less because they have a huge distance core, and a hard yet thin cover designed to provide enough spin to keep the ball in the air while still making the huge core easily accessible for lower swing speeds. Also in part the huge cores design somewhat prohibits spin, which in-turn inhibits slicing.

Premium balls like my Cally i(z) have much soft but firm covers, more functional layers and much higher resilient cores; all of which require much more swing speed to access the balls true character. The firm cover influences trajectory and putting feel while inner layers play to iron spin - all of which is why more swing speed is needed to reach and compress the higher resilient core where distance is found. Reason it's said to benefit from premium ball distance, one must have SS to compress; but also reason someone with minimal SS can play the ball benefiting from much of the balls characteristics, while not accessing the balls potential distance.

I think he was responding to the statement that the "X" versions spin less off the driver. That is not the necessarily the case. For example, the Z Star X spins more than the Z Star off the driver. Srixon even reflects that fact in the ball description on the packaging. The Z Star X spins more off the driver. In fact, too much for my tastes so I use the regular version.

Yeah I was talking about the X version verse the non X versions. That is the name of the title of this thread. I was no way implying that a Nike PD Long spins more off the driver then the ONE Tour. That would be counter productive to all those who are playing the PD Long because of the reduced driver spin. Here is the link to the thread I was talking about in my previous post.
