Demoman, I live about 12 miles west of Boston, so it's about a 1.5 hour trip including shuttle from parking to course. Not bad, I actually played Newport last year on a coroporate outing, and from what I remember, changes are minimal (totally renovated the clubhouse though). GReat course with some awesome views!

Wow, Shook, we were watching Michelle at the same time!! Wish I knew who you were! I actually drove Ms. Wie and her family + David Leadbetter from player parking to the course. I was also around the putting green & first tee around the same time too!

 

I think I saw Michele w/the center shafted Oz still...

 

We got rain in Newport this morning and the wind is howling at the course - those ocean breezes are something else!

Cristina Kim plays the Henry-Griffitts blades. My dad was just fiitted for a set of RDH blades at 70 years old and is striking the ball better than he ever has. By the way, Jim Griffitts was friend of mine and great guy.

With the course conditions and the wind in the area Newport CC is going to be the truest of test for these women. Maybe even a little much. The rough is brutal, the course is soaking wett soft and the sea-breezes are unbelievable. To be honest +10 may actually win this tournament in the wind kicks up even a little like normal.

 

I will give a report Thursday and Sunday - unfortunately no cameras allowed. Also, make sure you guys watch the TV Coverage this week - the course is amazing if you have never seen it!

Pretty sure Michelle had the center shaft black OZ, saw it briefly.

 

Gub where were you when you were watching Michelle, up in the grandstands on the right side of the range? We were a bit off to the left to keep away from the crowds when she was down there.

 

The mizuno blades were property of the girl with the black shirt, khaki pants, and a black titleist trucker hat that is chipping behind Karie Webb.

 

I'm pretty sure the other blades questioned were Christian Kim. She is friends with a member there, overheard them talking and it sounded like she had played there a few times. Her boyfriend is from Naragansett, and his family rented a place there this summer, so that is where she was staying.

 

The rough is very thick and wet, and most of the balls they hit out of it were just advancing up the fairway.

 

I watched a lot of action on 3 and 4. 3 is a soft dogleg left, into the wind, and 4 is a par 3 uphill, in to the wind. Not many players were reaching the 3rd green in regulation, and if they did, they were just on the front. Any hole that plays towards the water this week is going to be very tough for them.

 

The rain closed the course to spectators on Monday, and there were still a few areas (like down 7, and 8 tee) that we couldn't go to on Tuesday because it was too wet.

 

Lots of college bags. The one with the Ping I3+s was a Duke bag btw...

 

Ask me other questions about who had what, I'll try to answer. Just always seemed that I couldn't get the right angle to get the players name in the pic!

Shook23 - I was hanging around 4th tee/green, range, putting green, 18 green, 1 tee for most of Tuesday afternoon... saw Michelle hit 3 balls into the bunker on #4 - she did fairly well hitting 'em out too!

 

today was just brutal - more rain is in the forecast for tomorrow... ugh.

no rain today - nothing but fog fog fog and more fog. players were very ready to head home when they finally called it altho' quite a few stayed at the range & putting green.

 

we'll try again tomorrow & Saturday... then 36 on Sunday, going off both 1 & 10 with no re-pairing between rounds... egads.

Didn't hear that report... I had heard earlier in the week that a number of the "top players" were staying/playing/practicing at Carnegie Abbey Club... so maybe there?

It was great to finally get some golf in today! I had to make an airport run in the morning so didn't get to the course until midday or so... wandered around a bit then finally decided to follow Kristina Tucker (from BBV) in from #10.

 

She had it to -1 and ended up +1... while her playing partners were +7 and +11 or something like that. Her parents were in the gallery (spotted speaking swedish w/Kristina earlier this week) as well as what I think were her in-laws (husband was caddying)... I say gallery but it was the next to the last tee time and it was almost 8PM when they finished... I think there were maybe 10 folks walking with the group. :yahoo:

 

Should be another great day tomorrow!
