Titleist Prototype or Tour Issue Irons?????

Wondering what I found...

I just bought these irons and am wondering if anyone on this site knows anything about them? They have Nippon 950 stiff shafts and all it says on the irons is Titleist on the back cavity pad.

They look to be a soft forging but other than that I have no clue what I have here...

They look like a set of 591 Titleist irons. They were released in Japan and never sold in the states. They are forged.

Those were a japan market only irons, not sure if any tour players used them

Very good!

This iron at least 12-13 years old and the head design rather big, especially the shorter iron.

I owned a set of these one time. These are Japan only Titleist 591 irons. These are at least 10 years old. Miura forged allegedly.

Was hoping to see the new Titleist forged VCG's!

those look so close to the forged DCI's from Japan. cavity is a lil different though.

yeah, Japan issue only....BUT...I do vaguely recall Davis Love playing some prototype titleist irons back in the day that were very similar to this. Not sure if it were this exact set. My guess is some tour prototype that eventually birthed these Japan issue irons.

They are not really "Titleist" clubs actually. Back then, Titliest licensed out their name to Japan where they did not sell clubs and these clubs were made by another company paying royalties to Acushnet. They are old as posted above. I see them pop up from time to time.

I've seen these on ebay before. I saw Davis Love play with a forged set but not like these, his looked just like the DCI blacks except forged, probably custom just for him.

ya, beautiful set of irons; there is a set of these irons on ebay right now. title of the auctions is Beautiful Forged Set Issued by Japan Titleist Limited!
