proper etiquette for pairing up or playing through

Yes....those damn ONESOMES are SOOO annoying! They should bring their own friends to the golf course and not try to latch on to my group. What a bunch of losers those ONESOMES!! ;)

There is absolutely no such thing in golf as "singles have no status". In fact, the USGA specifically says otherwise:

However, I agree that if the course is full that upsetting the round of 10 groups would be a breach of etiquette itself.

I play as a single alot and last week I caught up with a twosome that was waiting on the foursome in front of them. I finish a par 3 and am almost at the tee box when the second person teed off. Off they went, I'd been behind them a few holes so they knew i was there. I was just hoping for a 'want to join us?" from them. I know I can't play through.

So I waited on them for that hole and while waiting to tee off on the next hole a twosome in a cart hits their approach into the hole i just finished. So I walked over and told them I was waiting on the groups in front of me and asked if they wanted to join me. That gave the groups in front time to clear and we still caught them on the next hole. No matter, some people just have no clue.

Singles don't seem to be the problem, mostly they are good golfers who need to geat a game in quick before going home or back to the office, hackers like me need a playing partner or we lose too many balls so I personally have no problem letting a single go through, or if he/she wants, join if we a 2 or 3 ball. I find the most anoying and messy "wanna play throughts" are two guys in a golf car who feel they need to play 18 in 90 minutes, totaly disrupt the golf course, tell you they playing through and generally can't find the green in under 5.

My own opion regarding playing through is if my group is slow, I have no probelm, I will never ditch a group, but I have no problem standing back for those behind to play through, provided of course they can keep a decent momentum, if the course is full forget it I am not going to turn my game into a nightmare of waiting on the Tee wait your turn or come back when its quieter. As far as joining, I agree, don't ask, wait to be invited.

If a group behind starts driving balls at us to force us into submission, I turn around and hit the balls back at them, got a letter form the committee about that once But its the most anoying and dangerous act of bullying and I will respond in kind....
