Pebble Beach, Inn at Spanish Bay question

I plan on playing Pebble Beach with a friend in March and as we have to (in order to secure a tee time), we are staying 2 nights at Spanish Bay. We are taking our wives on the trip. My in-laws have a house in Carmel that we can all stay at so it's such a waste that we need to get rooms at Spanish Bay but we don't really have a choice. Does anyone with experience think it would be possible for us to pull of this scenario: I check in one night and stay there with my wife and on the second day, my buddy and his wife stay in the room. This way we can each get one night at the resort and split the cost amongst us. I wouldn't be checking out, we would just be pulling a switch. However, I'm sure the staff will see us moving our bags out and another couple moving their bags in. I'm not sure how they would react. I'm technically not doing anyhting wrong here. What do you think?

Why stay at all? I played Pebble in September the Monday after the first tee open and they had tee times available the day before without staying at the resort. I was able to secure a 9:10 tee time on Labor Day which according to them is their busiest day of the year. Business is down for them. If you and your buddy have a couple day window, I don't think you should have a problem at all calling the day before and making a tee time without spending $700 a night on a room.

Did you go on as a single or were there a few of you?

I have 2 full days there and I want to play Spyglass and Pebble. If I wait till the day before to call I don;t want to risk travelling all the way out there (coming from NY) and not having a tee time.

When I stayed at Spanish Bay the rooms were clustered in buildings that were separate from the main building that contains the front desk, restaurant, bar, etc. I don't think you'd have any problem doing what you're describing.

I can't speak for The Inn, but as the Manager of a major hotel, I can tell you I would have no problem with what your describing. If the room is paid for two nights, then I really don't care if two or four people stay in it. I don't think hotels of that quality spend too much time monitoring the coming and goings of guests.

Now a hotel on the beachfront during Spring break, is probably keeping an eye out to make sure there aren't 10 underage kids in their rooms.

Enjoy the trip!!

Given the current state of the economy, I wouldn't worry about it. Go check out their last minute 24 hr tee times on the website to get an idea of the current opening. I have had no problem booking a last minute tee time and avoiding staying at the resort.

I was a single but the tee time I booked was part of a 2 some that was available. They had 3 tee times available, two 2somes and a 4some. They had countless tee times available on the Tuesday after Labor Day but we were unforunately going to an aquarium instead of playing again (thank you wife).
