Here's my agenda for Scotland 2011...

Trip of a lifetime.

Flying into Edinburgh on May 9th, coach and driver take us to Prestwick for a quick 18, then check into the Royall Turnberry Hotel.

Over the next couple of days we play Royal Troon in the AM, lunch in the clubhouse, Portland in the afternoon. The Ailsa Craig course at Turnberry.

The next morning we check out of Turnberry and head to Carnoustie for 18 and lunch, then check into the Old Course Hotel at St. Andrews. The next morning we play the Old Course in the morning and New or Jubilee in the PM, then finish our golf the next day by playing KIngsbarn.

All courses are guaranteed tee times for a group of 8.

It's a pretty full itinerary, but we will have some time available... any suggestions for other diversions to check out?

The Castle course
Ladybank Golf course

Worth a walk around the old town and a trip to the golf museum. Also recommended is a putting session on the Himalayas putting green.

Forgot to mention, you could venture inland a bit and go to Gleneagles

Thanks for the suggestions, but we already have 8 prepaid rounds of golf scheduled on 6 days. Adding more golf is not what I had in mind. We will be drinking scotches and holding evening putting contests on the Himalayas.

Any other points of interest within short distances of Turnberry or St Andrews?

FYI...... It will take you at least three hours or more to get from Turnberry to Carnoustie. Looks like a very ambitious time table on this itinerary. Having been there the last two summers, my advice is to not be in a hurry to get anywhere. No one there is in a hurry, I can assure you. As for places to go or see. Souter Johnnies' Inn in Kirkoswald (10 minutes from Turnberry) is a great place to have dinner. Great atmosphere and food. Enjoy!

I went up for The Open last summer and played the PGA Centenary at Gleneagles. Excellent course and 2014 Ryder Cup venue. Cannot recommend it enough.

Could stop off at Stirling castle and the Wallace monument on the way up from turnberry

Culzean Castle right near Turnberry is pretty cool. As mentioned above, Stirling has some nice sights as well. The entire town of St Andrews, and of course the Royal Mile in Edinburgh.
