If you go to The Golf Channel's website and click on the What's in the Bag section, there's an interview w/ Bridgestone that goes very in depth about the new irons. But no pics with the article :man_in_love:

Well yesterday I did have the chance to try these new Bridgestone Irons. They are called the Gravity Chamber Irons, and they will come in 2 different models, an Oversize and Mid Size, the oversize will have a glossy type finish, and the mid size will be in a satin finish. The irons overall are pretty solid, I would of taken some pictures however we were unable to do so. The irons will be available for retail on Spetember 15th. According the marketing people at Bridgestone, they will start running ads in magazine and television around the PGA championship and they will also post some information on the website soon!

BRIDGESTONE INTRODUCES NEW GC SERIES IRONS DESIGNED FOR GREATER

PLAYABILITY AND CONTROL

Proprietary Gravity Chamber Technology Optimizes Iron Performance

Covington, Ga. — Adding to its already popular TOUR level golf clubs and balls, today Bridgestone introduced its new Gravity Chamber (GC) series of irons for longer distance, higher moment of inertia and improved launch conditions. The GC Series features two models, the GC.MID and the GC.OS, designed to make shots easier to control for two distinctly different types of players. The GC series employs a technology that allows Bridgestone engineers to remove inefficient weight from the clubhead where it is not helping to improve golfers’ games, and strategically repositions it to create a center of gravity at an optimal location, improving launch conditions and accuracy.

GC.MID

The GC.MID irons provide the feel better players demand, with forgiveness golfers of all ability levels can use. The GC.MID features a Gravity Chamber in the back cavity of the clubhead from which significant weight is removed. The weight is repositioned by using Gravity Disks that increase moment of inertia and as a result produces a reduction in clubhead twisting on off-center hits, generating a straighter ball flight.

The strategic placement of the disks creates a precise and progressive center-of-gravity location that provides enhanced control and improved launch conditions. The combination of repositioned weight and progressive center-of-gravity produces long irons that fly high and are easy to square, and short irons that have a flatter ball flight with greater stability for ultimate shot shaping potential. This is accomplished by positioning the disks farther apart in the long irons and progressing the disks closer together throughout the mid and short irons.

GC.OS

The GC.OS irons provide extreme forgiveness for players seeking ultimate relief on mis-hits and high-flying iron shots for long distance. The GC.OS set also removes weight from the back cavity in the form of the Gravity Chamber. The saved weight is positioned to the gravity disks in the extreme corners of the back cavity of the clubhead creating a center-of-gravity that maximizes forgiveness and makes all clubs easier to hit high, long and accurate.

Both sets of Gravity Chamber irons are created from 431 soft stainless steel for tremendous feel and consistency. The GC series of clubs all feature a thin-face design that increases ball speed at impact, translating into irons that fly further. In addition, the strategic location of the Gravity Disk placement in both sets produces a more solid feel and sound when striking the ball.

“The GC series of irons are our most forgiving clubs yet,” said Mike Moxie, Golf Club Marketing Manager, Bridgestone Golf. “By providing better players with unsurpassed feel and workability that they demand, yet providing some assistance to those players who aspire to play a premium level product, we feel that we’ve created two sets of irons meeting the requirements of a wide range of skill levels. Don’t be surprised to see people in your weekend foursome and the best players in the world relying on this breakthrough technology this fall.”

The GC.MID irons are available in 2-PW with stock Nippon® NSPRO® 1050GH shafts. The GC.OS irons are available in 3-SW with stock Nippon® NSPRO® 950GH shafts. The clubs also feature a Golf Pride® Gravity Chamber grip. Custom options for grips and shafts are available. (The GC.MID will be the first clubs in the Bridgestone line that will be available in a left-handed model (available Spring 2007).

Both the GC.MID and GC.OS irons will feature a suggested retail price of $699 (steel) and $799 (graphite) and will be available at golf specialty stores and green grass retailers nationwide, beginning September 2006. The ugly factor is hard to call (can you say Nike Slingshot?). But without the Nike name (and more importantly, distribution), Bridgestone continues its uphill battle - but this appears to be the first recent foray into the average players market (and where the $$$ is).

The concept appears solid - moving weight nearer the center as the iron loft goes higher, to make the weight more forgiving in the longer irons and better positioned to allow trajectory control in the scoring irons.

Cast, not forged, may not matter a great deal in this mid-segment. Likely to be (another) solid offering by Bridgestone. But a breakout club...

TM Sim Max 10.5 Ventus Red Senior
TM Sim Max 3 Ventus Red Senior
Cobra F9 17* Rescue Atmos Regular
TM Sim Max 19*, 25*, 28* Rescue Ventus Blue Senior
Cobra F9 7-SW Atmos Regular
Vokey SM6 62* T Kuro Kage stiff
TM Spider Tour Day
OUUL stand bag
Titleist Velocity or Callaway Softfeel

Even if the club is fantastic, their distribution and marketing couldnt handle it. Look at the waits people had for the high end CBs for most of this year. I doubt the segment these clubs are aimed at will have the same patience. Certainly shops will need to stock them and seems like fewer shops are interested in trying the Bridgestone line of clubs given their on again/off again relationship with the US market.

From The Golf Channel:

The Gravity Chamber series of irons are brand new. They will be out in mid-September.

GC technology is the removal of inefficient weight and the repositioning of that mass to create better launch conditions, feel and performance. What we’ve done is take about 30 grams of weight out of the trailing edge of these irons and repositioned that weight in to what we’re calling Gravity Discs which protrude off the back of the cavity. These are helping to control the center of gravity not only in terms of how deep it is but also thinking along the lines of moment of inertia. So, we’re trying to move that weight deep and out as far as possible to increase moment of inertia.

With the discs, we’re also able to control the sound and feel of the club. What we’ve done is developed two sets. One is called the Gravity Chamber mid-size, what we’re referring to as the GC-Mid. And then there is the GC over-size, called the GC-OS. The GC-Mid set is a mid-size club head designed for a player anywhere from 8 to 15 handicap. The OS has the same technology applied with a bit of a different twist on it. And it’s targeted at a player in the 12 to 25 handicap range. The discs are quite striking at first glance, as well as the chamber.

We use a 431 stainless steel head. It’s a cast construction process. We found that with this material it’s producing the mass properties we want as well the sound and feel which is so crucial in this day and age.
