Played Torrey Pines

Traffic is not as bad as people say it is. But then I moved here from the DC/MD/VA area where 495 and 66 become parking lots during rush hour.

I was out for4 days and i can honestly say i didnt think it was that bad... Maybe i was lucky.

The residents card is a joke ..you have to live in the city of San dego to qualify for it. Not San Diego county, San Diego city.
So to anyone wanting to move here with the idea of playing TP year round, good luck with that one.
if I lived another 5 min south I'd have a card, but since I don't I won't play any of the SD muni's...I'll let the tourists pay the Rediculous fees to help the city of SD try to get out of debt.
There's plenty of better kept courses in SD

You must be 10 years old... Because when I moved here in the mid-90's, there was hardly any freeway traffic (at least La Jolla northward on the 5). Fast forward to now - bumper to bumper daily and even on weekends. Try driving to San Diego from Orange County on a Saturday mid-morning and you'll find out what I'm talking about.

Not to mention I played Torrey North yesterday at 11:30. Took 5.5 hrs to complete the round. Ridiculous.

I don't live in SD, but have a house north of Carlsbad, and have a branch office in the area. The traffic in SD surrounding area is pathetic, and the employment market there generally stinks. I played T.Pines a few times and won't go back. Its NOT worth the bend-over price, not to mention what they are hitting locals for.

After the farmers, it's been in really good condition these past few weeks. But, it usually doesn't look that good. Better than a typical public course, but definitely not as good as a private.

Add 31 to that 10, and like I said the big cities Ive been to.. Frisco, LA, Phoenix, Miam, Seattle, its all pretty much the same.. No big deal, accept it and allow for necessary traffic![quote name='lobub' timestamp='1298415756' post='3001184']

I played TP South in August of last year. Its definitely a "play there once" course. Bottom line: the place is a muni course that sits on the ocean. Seriously, if you can subtract the ocean from the picture, I could envision this course just about anywhere else. I found that I could bomb my driver at will, and if it went offline, it was no big deal (except on the ravine holes, if you go the wrong direction). Typically, you end up in another fairway, with some chance to still make par or better. I can see why Tiger did well on this course.

I also noted a number of unrepaired ballmarks. The place appears to be treated as a muni by those who play it most frequently (probably those who pay the resident rates).

To the OP....go play Arcadia or Forest Dunes here in Michigan (once the snow melts), then decide for yourself where Torrey ranks compared to those. Michigan is not all that bad....at least I keep telling myself that!

EDIT: the worst part....The two Bud Lights I bought on the course cost me $15!!

whatever you are smoking, it must be some damn good stuff. SD has the worst traffic out of all of those cities.

I visit the SD area several times a year. I live in San Francisco and Phoenix. San Fran has some bad rush hour traffic, but outside rush hour, you can easily get around. Phoenix rush hour traffic is not even in the same category as SF. I drive back and forth from SF to Phoenix via LA traffic and outside rush hour, it still flows at way more than the speed limit. SD traffic absolutely reeks inside and especially outside rush hour.
