I don't know why, but I found it extremely funny that you qualified that statement with "not in the face though". You should add the "twig and berries" are off limits too.

I'm not a big collector, so I dont understand why a signed glove is worth getting hit by a ball on its way down.

 

Its true, golf is full of breaks - lucky and unlucky. Its fun to watch how they play out. I guess it comes down to Karma, and if you beleive in it.

Remember when Tiger hit some 7 year old kid earlier this year or late last year? A few tears and one signed glove later he looked OK. The kid sure held that glove tightly. I'll never have a PGA card, but that's one way to get in on the action. ...twig and berries would def. be off limits too...

I don't think he has to give anyone anything. However, if I were him, I would have given more (ie. $100) or something to that affect. If it helped me save 2 strokes, I would give him enough money to at least have dinner on me that night. Just me though...

In all honesty, the practice of giving stuff like that to the fans is bad for the game. You will end up with fans purposely kicking balls back into the fairway, etc for the chance of getting something in return. There are special cases, such as when Tiger hit a person with his drive near the tee box (few years ago), that deserves special sympathy but a ball that is descending like it did and didn't hurt the guy is worth nothing IMO.

Props to ExtraStiff for bringing up the Arnies Army point (ya beat me too it) back in the day Arnie fans would DIVE to be hit by a ball and deflect it bak into the fairway,.... you may have had people lifting up small children like sheilds to deflect a ball. Does Tiger owe the guy more than a glove?....no. First of all when your at tourney you should be aware of the fact that some golf shots may not always find the fairway (would you be suprised if a puck came into the stands at a hockey game??),.... and also did anyone see the guy INFRON of the one who got hit? HE ducked,..... personaly if I am at a sporting event (or any other place for that matter) where balls, bats, pucks, clubs, tires, shoes or anything else may fly into spectators and the person infront of me ducked,...... I am probably moving!!!!

 

Was it a lucky break?..... yes,.... but it happens. Imagine if there had just happened to be a fan standing ON TOP of the hospatality tent on #18 at the U.S. Open this year............. lol

My Buddy who's a lawyer just burst my bubble about 'giving a ball etc when hit'. He says that this is probably by design so that they can use it in court if ever sued to lessen damages.

So what's the rule, was the man escorted out / banned from the tourney? What would've happen if he "threw" the ball back to the fairway / deaper in the ruff? If he did get a "gift" from Eldrick does that and what Philly did earler set a bad example of fans getting involved in the game?

You guys were talking about Tiger's bad tipping........seriously how hard is it to be a waiter.....i know just by saying that im going to get the guy saying, "OMG you have no idea........but in reality, i tell you what I want,you dont even have to cook it just bring it to me, and you think you should get more that say 20%. Just because Tiger has more money than us doesnt mean that he should be held to a higher tipping standard, It's not like waiting for a rich guy is any harder.

 

 

BTW i probley tip at the least like 20% but thats because i eat at the same resturaunt all the time and the people basically know me.......so i give between 20 and 30% every time im there
